Hi all,
Looking for a way to monitor and watch my dog when I'm out of the house, mainly just for the video option so I can visually check in on her from my iphone when I'm at work. I know there's buying the traditional remote webcamera option, or using a spare phone that joins up via an app. There's so many different apps and possibilities. Can anyone with experience say which one is best and which brand to go for?
Thank you!
There are so many different network camera's out there now, person can get lost in it all. Tried many, D-link is still my preference, used them when gf first moved in with the dog to make sure he wasn't barking. Sets up in the cloud, there's a app for your phone etc. There's software you can load on a pc to record, but most won't need it.
Just be sure to set a good password for your camera during setup or the whole world will be able to access it. And if you're not hooked to wireless network on your phone, be sure to close the camera app or you could be facing a large data bill.
I have a friend who set up a skype account for their dog on their home computer that had a webcam. Then set it up to automatically accept video calls.
Then you can call your dog from any computer or phone with skype installed (from a different account), where ever you are, granted you have a good data plan or access to wi-fi. She said it worked really well! Plus if you already have a webcam, it's completely free!
This is so cool, I never would have thought to do something like that. Maybe if I was going for a vacation where I was not allowed to take my pups, I would do it.
I just saw something the other day that lets you dispense treats while basically video chatting with your dog. I can't remember exactly what it was but lemme try and find it for ya
Before I even got my dog I installed a security camera at my condo - mainly to satisfy my paranoia! Anyways, when I got my dog the camera I already had was ideal for keeping tabs on my new roomie throughout the day while I could not be home. Actually turned me on to the fact that he had severe separation anxiety. I think you can tell a lot from a dog by seeing them while you're gone.
The Nest Cam works well in day or night time and is accessible from your smart phone. It has a cloud-based recording capability that will keep video for a few days and highlight any activity. It can also provide alerts of any movement or noise, if you want.
