Bought the wrong dog food

My 6 month old Great Pyr is on a large breed puppy formula by Science Diet. We usually purchase the chicken flavor for her, and have had no problems. However, I accidentally grabbed the lamb and rice formula, same brand, for large breed puppies, while in a rush at the pet store. She has had soft stools, but not runny for a day or so, and has been extra gassy! Has anyone made this mistake before? She doesn't seem to be bothered, and is eating well and has her usual energy, just her poops aren't quite normal. Should I go pick up a bag of chicken formula and mix it in? Or just run with the lamb and rice and then switch her back slowly to the usual chicken formula?

If it's only been a couple of days, go get the chicken to mix in about 50/50 and, slowly bring her back to the right formula.

Gas isn't that bad but, it tells you that something in that food is a bit more difficult for her to digest.

Depending on where you bought it from you may be able to bring it back to the store and exchange it for the right one. I would probably go pick up the normal food and stop feeding the lamb. Not worth the upset tummy.

Unfortunately the pet store wouldn't return the food since it had been opened. I mixed in the lamb and chicken 50/50 and we're trying that. She ate a full bowl last night for the first time since I made the mistake... so I'm hopeful. Not throwing out a $60 bag of food, sorry!

You probably can get her adjusted to the 50 - 50 mixture, but if you are planning to go back to the chicken base, start reducing the percentage of lamb you mix in, before you run out, so it is a gradual return to the all chicken for her.

Science Diet does guarantee their food.

"All Hill's pet foods are marked with our guarantee. If you are not satisfied with Prescription Diet®, Science Diet®, Ideal Balance™ or Healthy Advantage® pet food products for any reason, simply return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement."

Talk to a manager at the pet store or call Science Diet direct. I recently got a refund on Science Diet through Chewy. It coudn't have been easier. If there is a guarantee the pet store should honor that.
