Question Advice on adopting a 2yr greyhound

My husband and I haven't said yes yet, we are talking about adopting a 2yr old female greyhound. I know there is a few misconceptions bout greyhounds, many people think they are hyperactive and I must admit so did, that was until now as I'm researching the breed. I would love some tips and advice from other greyhound owners before we say yes or no to adopting the dog

I loved the greyhounds I adopted...retired racers. The only tip I can give is to watch for cats. If this is a retired racer a cat will look like a rabbit to her. Other then that I had zero issues with any of them..

As far as I know she isn't an ex racer been a house pet but she has had a hard life. The lady who has her now got her from a bad home. She has given her TLC and basic training but due to unforeseen reasons her and her family have to move interstate and sadly are not able to take the dog. I'm hoping to meet her today with Jed

i haven't had greyhounds, but if i were you, i'd read up on sight hounds a bit. be discerning though, and try to see her as a dog first and a breed later other than that, see how the meeting goes, and find out specifics about what she's been through and what sorts of training you might need to do with her. read up on counter-conditioning and desensitization techniques as it is likely you will need to use them with her... post pics

I've been reading up on greyhounds ever since I found out bout her. We meet her with Jed yesterday and happy to say it did go well. She is a clam sweet little girl (not shy or timid) who didn't try to dominate Jed which he really hates. He even gave her a few licks which I've never seen him do to another dog. She has basic training.
She isn't a pure greyhound but not sure what she maybe crossed with.
Poor girl hasn't had a great start to life she only has three legs. The lady who has her at the moment found her running around near a train station and was able to track down her owner only to find out they didn't care that the dog had got out and really didn't care what happened to her. They said when she was around 6 months old she fell out of the back of a Ute (pick up truck) and her back left leg was crushed. After it was removed they decided they couldn't handle a three legged dog so instead of finding a new home for her they just left the back gate open
So the lady who found her has taken care of her for 6 months but now as her and husband have split up she needs to move and can only take one dog (she has two) and decided to take her 10 year collie.

Congratulations!

Just curious, were you warned about thin skin and never to let her off leash in an unenclosed area? When I was chatting with a greyhound rescue lady at a bench show a couple years ago she said something about greyhounds having thin skin and that you have to be careful allowing them to roughhouse because they can be cut easily. She also said never to allow the breed off leash outside a securely fenced area because they are prey driven and fast, so if dog sees a squirrel/cat/rabbit/bird it may take off after it and be hurt or lost.
