Therapy dog

I was interested in making Goose a therapy dog. Obviously he is too young right now but I wanted to get some information on it! When is a good age for him to start the training to become one? And how do I go about it..I'm pretty new to all of this.

I think there's a minimum age limit. Check out Therapy Dogs International.

You can look at the test and start training for that right away, even if you do have to wait a while to actually take it. Kikopup has videos for everything on the test, I do remember that from when I looked into it.

Never to early to start at least training!
Best thing to do IMO is train to get his CGC and if he passes then go right for the Therapy test
Willow is certified through Therapy Dogs Incorporated and she also has her CGC. Therapy work is so rewarding and fun, I love putting smiles on peoples faces
Also just so you know (if you don't already) there is TD Incorporated and TD International, 2 different tests but you can only be with one.

The CGC is the Canine Good Citizen program/test. Here's more info on it:

AKC's Canine Good CitizenŽ (CGC) Program

AKC's Canine Good CitizenŽ (CGC) Program

AKC's Canine Good CitizenŽ (CGC) Program - Titles

Good luck with Goose's training!

A therapy dog is a calm, friendly dog who is well trained and goes to visit places like nursing homes, hospitals, schools, ect to help soothe and relax people.

The CGC is a fairly easy test to pass if your dog knows basic obedience. My Boston Weezie and I were at a dog event and they were doing testing. I had her tested with no practice and she passed with flying colors on the first run-thru of all the parts.
I'm really excited because I found out one of the new teachers I will be working with is a trainer for therapy dogs. She currently has 2 puppies and may be able to bring them to school for part of their socialization training. She also works with dogs for the deaf as a puppy raiser.
