Took Fred to the carnival in a town near us (the 3rd one we've taken him to!) and got some pictures of him in his vest and harness...they are cell phone picture so they suck, sorry.

He wears his Gentle Leader so we don't knock people over The black harness says search and rescue and that's the tracking harness and the blue vest underneath is what he usually wears out places and that has a patch saying in training.

We had the harness on because we actually did some simple tracks in the park and then a few in the carnival. He was distracted and not sure why he was working, but he did it

he spent a lot of the time just laying on the ground watching everything

Fred had his first experience with horses today and did wonderfully! I took him and Titan to a horse trial and we stood along the course at the water jump and watched the horses run past. Fred actually got bored after the first couple and wasn't even watching anymore. Then he got bored and wanted to follow them/walk somewhere and tried howling after the horses jumped so we had to leave.
But, overall, he was excellent being near horses when he's never been the close in his life. I wanted to get a picture but wasn't going to attempt that while holding 2 leashes and watching for the next horse and making sure fred stayed quiet once the horse was in sight.

TODAY IS FRED'S 1ST BIRTHDAY!!!!! (and his 13 siblings'! )

I made a cake last night for him. it's a pumpkin sweet potato cake with yogurt and banana as icing. oh, and sprinkles to make it look pretty

they haven't tried the cake yet, it wasn't done early enough. But they had cupcakes from petco last night and will have the cake today (these are the cupcakes: Gourmet Tails Dog Cupcake Treats at PETCO )

And my sister wrote this in honor of his birthday:

An Ode for Fred's Natal Day.

Young Fredericksburg is one today!
Come all with countenance glad;
Drink up a toast and cut the cake
To celebrate our lad.

One short year round we've watched him grow:
That pup who could curl on a lap
Is now a gangly, handsome hound
Whose tongue drips like a tap!

His nose, though wet, is trained and keen;
His skin is loose and flappy;
His paws are large, his eyes are bright,
And he howls to make us happy.

He is quick and cunning on a trail;
His good will knows no measure;
The officer who works with him
Will find him a great treasure.

So happy birthday, Freddy dear!
The year that lies ahead
Will bring to you prosperity
Whatever path you tread.
