Deuce's first hunt

Our new family member had his first teal hunt this morning. My husband said he did well in the blind, retrieved and recalled great, and didn't miss a duck. It was a short hunt, almost just a test to see how he was coming along. There were a few issues, but it lets us see where he's at in a live situation. This is great news because when we first decided to train him using mostly positive means, we weren't really sure if it would work without the electronics and rough handling that we read about and saw in videos. But it does. Three months in and sure, we've got some stuff to work on, but we're enjoying it and Deuce is enjoying it, so we're some happy campers today

Ditto! How awesome that you are able to use PR and get such success! I hope you are able to share your experience with others and promote the alternative to E-Collars

Thanks, everyone The hard part was convincing dh that it was possible so he didn't go spend money on stuff I didn't want to use. If you don't have it, you kinda have to put in the extra time lol. He's been a good sport about it and is now contrasting what he sees with other trainers and what we are doing with Deuce. Some things aren't that different, some things are. No trainers around us are doing without the collars so we're kinda on our own. It's a little difficult when there's not an actual person who can critique what you are doing and I'm sure we've confused Deuce at some points. Good thing he's a smart dog who can figure out what the humans are trying to do
