Echo's training log

14 weeks

INSIDE:

Sit + at a distance - great, will lie down if tired. Will sit when can't see me .
Lie down + at a distance - great with treat and play.
Mine - great will let go of a toy.
Look at me - good needs reinforcement.
Go get it - fetch a toy is good, will not drop it but seems to really enjoy chases.
Get a toy - good, working on learning names for toys.
Stay - needs work.
Leave it - needs work.
Can examine everywhere if calm.
Recall - needs work, good with treat.

OUTSIDE:

Leash on - less mouthing needs treat stimulus.
Sit + wait - getting better everyday.
Lie down - sometimes.
Recall - good today.
Pulls on lead, getting new harness tomorrow.

HOUSETRAINING:

Difficulties: coccidia unable to go outside for 2 weeks, UTI resolving this week, spooked by recycling truck.

Will go outside on 'get busy' does not seem interested in high level treats. Started using play today.

SOCIALISATION:

People: excellent, jumps up. Lessened with mat work around cafe.

Dogs: okay, dogs in apartments being introduced slowly. Rushed by unleashed dogs twice, met later on lead nil issues.

Puppy Plus

- first class Echo was having none of it, lack of attention on us.
- second class, fantastic! Better place in room, Jack and I were more calm and she had slept that morning. Plus I got back to training 3 times a day, I'd slacked off a bit.

Rock solid cues:

- Sit
- Down
- Go to/Calm on mat
- Go away
- Get it
- Mine
- Into bed (crate)

Semi-solid cues

- Echo (recall)
- Come (recall, started teaching this because we use her name too much)
- LLW (working on walking across roads calmly)
- Look at me
- Sit, Stay, Go (really fun for her, introduced on Saturday)
- Stay/wait
- leave it
- Get busy

Scenarios to work on:

- Nail cutting (calm on the mat, treating as I hold the clippers and touch feet)
- Baths (scared of bathroom, working on going upstairs on cue, then treats + games in bathroom)
- Greeting people/dogs (Calm sits at a distance, with mat nearby for safe spot)

Puppy Plus

- 4th class: excellent, private class, trainer happy with progress by both Echo and I.

Rock solid cues:

- Sit
- Down
- Go to/Calm on mat
- Go away
- Get it
- Mine
- Into bed (crate)
- look at me/that
- sit stay go

Semi-solid cues

- Kilo (recall, started teaching this because we use her name too much)
- LLW (working on walking across roads calmly and switching directions)
- Stay/wait
- leave it, upped the difficulty and added get it as well
- bring here

Shaky cues, working at low reps once a day since she's a little apprehensive
- lay
- touch

Scenarios to work on:

- Nail cutting (calm on the mat, treating as I hold the clippers and touch feet) this is going well, can brush her everywhere now.
- Baths (scared of bathroom, working on going upstairs on cue, then treats + games in bathroom) no progress
- Greeting people/dogs (Calm sits at a distance, progress to walking closer then away)

We've been working for two weeks on the cue "flat out" lying on her side relaxing. She finds it really difficult compared to everything else so we've been going really slow and not pushing it. Normally she finds training really easy so I was super proud of her this morning when she got flat out with a stay for 3 secs! She still needs a lure so still a long way to go.

Currently using Sue Ailsby's training levels.

Working on level 2 Zen step 2, we'll probably be stuck here for a while. Zen is hard for Echo partially because I'm impatient to get to the 'good' or active stuff.

Echo knows:

Level 1

Zen
Come
Sit
Touch
Stop (Down: realised I was calling out Stop when she bolts, a down with distance isn't helpful if I don't cue it.

Go away
Calm: down with hips rolled.
Bang: flat on side.
Off: 4 paws on ground.
Go crate
Spin right
Roll over: paws in the air.
Paw: touch the thing with either paw.
Over: jump.
Lie down while eating
Up stairs/down stairs: both for stairs and river banks.

Working on:
Sit pretty
Spin L
Drop it

Impossibles:
LLW although she's not pulling too much.
Ignore the squirrel
Postie: so reactive even at 200 m
