No more mutt puppies?

We have been looking on and off for 3 months for a puppy. Do they no longer exist? We've always had mutts...Otto is the closest thing to a pedigree as we've ever had as children or adults...and was really hoping to find a pup today, but no luck...

I regularly check the websites of about 7 all breed rescues in my area, and all of them have at least one litter at any one time, though they usually have way more. Have you tried petfinder? You can set it to only show puppies.

There are tons-where have you been looking? As Crio showed-petfinder has many. So do Kijiji.com and craigslist.com-and any local shelter near you as well I love mutts too-keep looking!

I am not able to adopt. Otto has never been fixed - my husband absolutely won't do it. AND, I don't have a fully fenced backyard (we share a driveway, so that portion isn't). But thanks, it just seems when my kids were little, independent pet stores always had puppies, now they have $2,000 full breeds.

BTW, I could get a boxer puppy from a puppymill that's being closed by the state. The next step for any not sold is rescues, would you take a chance?

I've never had the shelters actually check if my other dogs are altered or not. Rescues WILL check, but the average shelter wont

Yes and you could always say the dog is fixed. The shelter we adopted Mikey from had a crazy big questionaire (good!)
[ MLDHS Adoption Guidelines ]
but didn't verify anything-they may have if I lived closer, but I live five hours away so they sure didn't. They may also have assumed anyone willing to drive ten hours to adopt a dog sight unseen was ok (or maybe nutty lol).

Oh, that's cool. My local SPCA is a disaster, they actually euthenized a cat to cover up that they didn't know she'd come in as a stray the night before, maybe I'll look farther afield.

Now we're having a discussion about whteher Otto will be insulted at the age of almost 11 of having a bigger, younger male dog in the house with him. John says he'll be a great teacher, Jack says he'll be crushed and exhausted trying to keep up, Pete says he'll love it, I think maybe a little dog would be better so he can stay "king of the hill"? He's been an only dog for 2 years now.

Animal shelters? You could always look in the newspaper to see if anyone has to rehome a puppy.
