new puppy with older dogs ?

Hi everyone, I am new here but would like some advice please.
I have 2 dogs a 10 yr old mongrel and a 9 year old greyhound, both very laid back but enjoy a good run about . We live on a 2 acre fenced plot and recently our 3rd dog ( greyhound) who was very lively collapsed and died. The other two seem fine , just more quiet at times. Do you think if we got a puupy they would be ok with it ? or are they likely to gang up ? I have looked after my mothers German Shepherd in the past and they had no problems with him.
Thnaks for any advice

I am real sorry for your loss, do you literally mean she collapsed and passed? Did you figure out what happened?

Back to your question, I dont think it would be a problem if your dogs are ok with other dogs. Know that puppies are more rambunctious and can annoy older dogs, so they should never ever be left alone with the puppy. Also make sure the puppy has time to be separated from the older dogs. This will give them some space from one another. Treat and praise good behavior like walking away from the puppy when they have had enough or sharing toys/space with the puppy.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
Yes unfortunately Queenie just collapsed and died in front of us. We believe she had an aneurysm as we were told this is a common cause if this happens to a dog.
We are still thinking about a puppy so doing a bit more reading, thinking and pros and cons until we make our decision.
Thanks again Barley

I am so sorry to hear that. What is it that makes you want to get a puppy?

I don't think it will be a problem. If its possible introduce the dogs outside your home. Then allow your new puppy inside the home first while the others wait outside. Then bring the other dogs in and socialize them some more.

It sends the message that the home is yours not your dogs and it is OK for this new puppy to be inside.

Best of luck!

Thanks for all your replies. We found a perfect pup and bought her home. Did as suggested and everything is fine. My other two are fine with her and most intrigued at the size . The other bitch is a little wary but the dog thinks its great. Obvioulsy I will keep a close eye on them for always but so far so good.
