How old is your Wispa? I know that all dogs can be microchiped from 2-3 months old and sprayed from 6months and onward.

My vet will spay at 4 months. The shelters and vets in my area will do it as early as 8 weeks! (I was surprised by this, but they do in fact do it that young). I think different vets recommend it done at different times and each has their pros or cons for the reasons why.

I had my pup microchipped at 15 weeks when I got her final shot cycle, but when I had her first series of shots done at 9 weeks they offered to microchip her on the spot so I guess that can be done pretty early too.

By the way I checked out her blog, she is so very lovely. You are going to be one lucky puppy mom soon enough.

no, i dont agree that shelters are bad for spaying at 8wks. shelters are trying to do their job helping to control the pet population. if pups are adoptable at 8wks, most likely thats about the time they are going to be adopted. people love puppies, and puppies are typically adopted before older dogs. it makes sense to spay and neuter before they are adopted out. its the responsible thing for the shelters to do.

My dog was done at 5 weeks. The shelters have to protect themselves. To many people adopting and not bringing the dogs back to be altered, ruined it for everyone.

You can microchip at any time as far as I know.
