Default Just got my 1st pup

Today we got a 2 month old maltese poodle mix. this our first dog n im very happy about finally owning a dog. I know that since it is a mix breed it could grow up to have more poodle characteristics than maltese and vice versa. But if there are any maltese or poodle owner that could give me tips and advice about training/housebreaking etc. I would appreciate it.

yay! you got your dog! I am guessing that every dog is pretty much the same with training, but maybe someone on here has one of your breeds and can give you info about breed quirks. malteses i know seem to be very sweet dogs, but they are a tad fragile, so if the dog is around young children, be sure the children give gentle pets. toy poodles are smart critters, but sometimes, depending on the dog, they can be a tad ornery or stubborn, but overall are nice dogs. That's all i know from the malteses and poodles i have dealt with. do you have any pics you can post?

no not yet...one of the main concerns right now is potty training. We bought some wee wee pads because I heard they are the best to use with puppies, but since I'm new this, what would be the best way to potty train with wee wee pads and how would I go about doing it?

First NEVER EVER EVER punish for having an accident. This can put you back in training so much so that you have to start over again-just don't do it

Here's our housetraining sticky
House Training How Tos:
Read that thoroughly and then let us know if you have any questions about it

We hav a pen for her that we put wee wee pads in along with her bed...should i just keep doing this then eventually stop using the pen and just leave the pads out?

make sure tHe pen is big enough to seperate her bed from her pee pads enough. dogs typically don't like their waste around their iving areas. You don't want her to hold it in because she doesn't want to pee near her bed, then go pee somewhere else when she is out of the pen.

I would start with the whole pen then reduce to one slowly-so he keeps weeing on the pad

Use positive reinforcement to teach the dog to use the "potty".

Is there a specific place you want the dog to go? Outside? In a crate? That would be useful to know first before giving advice.
