introducing a new puppy into a home with a dog?

Hi guys very happy to say that on the 12th sep ill be getting a Staffordshire bull terrior puppy. I already have one dog that is super dog friendly, but I was just wondering if there are any precautions I should take when introducing the new addition to our household?
Thanks a lot

How is the older dog with puppies? If they are pretty tolerant, not much to do in the way of an intro...if you are unsure you may want to intro them in a neutral place, or bring in a scented item for the existing dog to smell first.

Ditto, the scented item is really good idea!! Like a pillow or a blanket with the smell of the new dog on the bed of the existing one.

You can also let the new dog smell around the house without the presence of the existing dog. Then crate the new dog in an obvious place and let the existing dog "discover" the new member on it's own and heavily reward with treats, hugs etc. (be careful to reward only good behavior). Then slowly let them sniff and play with each other! I wish everything goes well!! Congrats on the new addition!!

I think supervision is the key, especially during the first month!

It is always best to let your older dog to meet the new member of the family in a neutral place, anywhere outside the home, so they can sniff each other, get to know each other, you can see how they react and then take both of them in the house and as others said keep them separate at first, put the new pup in a crate/kennel so they can still see each other and sniff and later let them in a room together to play with your supervision of course.
