Faith20005's puppy questions

My family purchased a 5 month old Multipoo this past Sunday. SInce then my children and I have been watching training/teaching vidoes and reading books. This puppy is very energetic and friendly however he bites and poops everywhere. The previous owner gave us everything he had for the puppy including a potty grass for in doors. The puppy will not go on this grass and I am not sure how to tell when he needs to go. My children are trying as well but I am getting to the point where I don't want the puppy anymore. My children, ages 11, 10 and 7 really want to keep him but it's becoming stressful. We've created a schedule which has been ajusted many times. We watch him closely but the moment we turn and look back poop is on the floor! When we play with him he runs up to us, jumps on us and bites. We tell him no or say "ouch" really loud and walk away, it has not totllay stopped. We play with him, walk himm bathe him and love on him as well. Also, lately he's been bitting at his skin in certain areas and itching.. How often should we bathe him and is there something we can use if his skin is dry? At this point as I mentioned giving him back or away is sounded pretty good and purchasing another puppy when my children are older. HELP please.

you have not even had this dog a week.... why are you giving up on it so easily? having a puppy takes time and commitment, nothing is quick and easy with them. that is something you should have thought about before getting a puppy, which is probably what the last owners didnt think about either.

how come? its been less than a week. schedules take time to adjust to, just as it would for a person.

have you looked into teathering at all? or crate triainging? both these will help you with your problem.

as i stated before, its been less than a week. these things dont change overnight. you need to give it time.

you dont need to bathe a dog often. bathing strips the hair and skin of natural oils and causes dry flaky skin. only bathe when necessary. also this could be a food allergy. what is the dog eating? where is it itching? chewing paws/red itchy paws? red and hot itchy ears? etc.

youre children are not that young, and seem like they are trying to help you. so getting one when they are older will not change that fact that it is a puppy and needs time to learn.

I agree with everything GreatDaneMom has said. Training any dog, especially a puppy takes time, and this may mean months. Adjusting a schedule many times in a week is not going to help things, it will most probably make things worse and confuse the puppy. Be patient and carry on with sticking to the same routine and your puppy will soon adjust.

Lots of puppies like to bite while playing and it is quite easy to stop them doing so, even if its just with a simple "No!" but you need to be patient!

Hope everything goes well

Cant add much at all, patience is key when getting any dog of any age especially a puppy.

yep, I agree expectations are WAY to high. Give it much more time.

Also, giving the dog away or back will send the wrong message to your kids, it will also probably upset them quite a bit.

Maybe hire a professional trainer to come into your home and help you all learn about the puppy. Ask your vet for any good ones in your area.

Most of all, just be patient, he is a baby.

You must be patient with the puppy, he is still a puppy and can't fully control when to pee or poop. Would you expect a human child to learn not to pee or poop on his/her clothes/diaper in a week? Why so impatient. Take it easy and have some faith and patience with the pup. Hire a professional if it will make you feel better but don't expect that the trainer will magically make your pup instantly stop the pee or poop, it is mainly up to you to teach the pup what is right and what is wrong.
