Question Crying Whinny Puppy Whippet!

Hi people, i'm new in this forum, i joined hoping there's someone out there helping my situation.

My puppy is been with us for almost a month (3 and half weeks), we just took her to the vet and they saw her good, well fed, good teeth, good joints, all vaccines, de-wormed, etc. (still being de-wormed).
BUT, ruling the medical part out:

She cries a lot and whines.

We've been trying showing her the world little by little, we started with getting to know the house, then we introduced her the walks, I work at home but i try to take her to all my errands and walks i can do. We walk her 2 times a day long walks, we play with her.

We potty trained her and have done successfully every potty business (with some accidents). Later we introduced her the crate, little by little with rewards and praise, she is still struggles a little bit the crate, but not that much, she even learned to go by herself to the crate and sleep there.

But here are the main things that triggers all the horrible whine and crying:

.- Traveling in the Subway (*major drama!*)
.- Walking in the streets with traffic (cars, buses, trains, etc)
.- Strangers greeting her and dogs. (she hides behind us)
.- The cold weather (even if its a little breeze), makes her uncomfortable.
.- When no one is paying her attention...
.- Loud noises like waterfalls, rivers, machinery. (we live close to a cascade of water) and a train stops by right next to our house...
.- Her crying is combined with shaking.
.- Barks at us when we are dancing (this one is funny) :P

A little bit of her background:

1. We got a mixed Italian Greyhound with Whippet (she looks more like a Whippet so far). She's 3 months old.

2. No particular breeder, she was an accidental cross of dogs (oops!) I'm not sure if the woman is a breeder or just a dog show competitor, because from what she told me her dogs are European Champions (whippets) and she couldn't use my puppy for shows because they were not "pure breed".

3. She's super smart lovely, loves sitting next to us, watching the TV, playing with toys, playing tricks (sit, heel, down, roll over), respects a lot our things and space.

People is surprised that she being a puppy is so fearful. Usually the puppies are extremely curious and outgoing.

We have looked everywhere on the internet, even told the vet her behavior and everyone says the same, anxiety, to put a ticking clock under her bed, ignore the whining, correct when too loud, put her comfortable, etc.

But i can't find answers on anything related to being comfortable walking and with people/dogs and in the street or subway, i just can't carry the house with me! =P :?

We want to help our little furry creature. Any thoughts?
I apologize for the long message and i appreciate your thoughts in advance.

Thanks! =)

Whining/crying, barking, cowering and trembling are all signs of fear. You puppy is small and easily frightened. There's lots of helpful training information online regarding dogs who are fearful of loud noises or busy situations. If the problem is really severe, you may want to consider bringing her to training and socialization classes.

With regards to her being upset by wind/drafts, whippets and Italian greyhounds are both breeds that become cold easily. Consider a sweater.

Bottom line - as long as your vet says everything is find with your puppy healthwise, then it comes down to some serious training time.

Oh my gosh, your dog is completely overwhelmed by the situations she is placed in! Please review the stickeys on DF for fearful anxious dogs. Positive reinforcement only! If you scold, etc. it will make her more fearful and anxious. See the "calming signals" video by Kikopup....they do work and help!

She is very young still...It is big world out there with a lot of scarey things to get use to.. Just take it slow and give her time to get use to it all. Give her plenty of praise when she is calm and just looking around. Talk to her all the time letting her know all is okay..Just stay calm so she feels your calmness..

As for the crate put one of your dirty shirts in it each night so she has your scent for comfort. Where is her kennel? Do not let her out when she is fussing, that will only teach her..whining=get out Wait till she is quiet then get her out and love all over her and tell her how she is such a good girl.. She will learn whining gets me nothing were as quiet gets me happy mom..
