Boxer puppy

Hi,

I have been looking for a female Boxer puppy for a while now. I have found someone who is selling puppies. I was just wondering if I can get some advice on what to check for to make sure the puppies are healthy. They are about 3 weeks old now and I am going to see them and the parents on Saturday.

The guys also asked me for a 50% holding deposit. Is this normal or should I be wary?

here is just a basic guide....alot goes into creating good puppies...make sure you ask GOBS of questions...

this will help you
Dog Owner's Guide: Responsible Breeders

the parents MUST be health tested amoung many other criteria, otherwise you are just funding a backyard breeder.

I agree you should research what a breeder should have tested and done to their bitch and stud and ask them questions and paperwork is possible.

The breeder should OFFER to show you health records and show records for all the parents they own, as well as likely info on what their pups have gone on to do. There should be a contract involved as well-stipulating when you need to have a health check done (For health guarantees). As others have said if the breeder does not have all this-could be a BYB

Also you can check out their website (A breeder usually has one) and see what organizations they are registered with.

If the breeder doesn't work out-you should look into boxer rescue groups

Everybody on here is always very thorough! And yes, it's very normal for a breeder to ask for a non-refundable deposit for a puppy. I have never had experience with Boxers as a breed, but with my German Shepherd's and other large breed dogs, the breeder ALWAYS will state their OFA ratings and give a record of all puppy dewormings and shots when pup is turned over to me at point of sale. They will usually give a 1 yr or more sometimes health guarentee for the pup! I would be VERY wary of anyone who did not give this information up on their website or when i went to take the puppy home, so it's always important to ask if its not available on their web page and make sure you see it in person, i'd never just take anyone's word when it comes to my new pup's health! Good luck with your new baby, I'm sure you've picked an awesome breeder and new family member!

Please, please do ask lots of questions of the breeder. Especially one regarding the health testing of both parents. There are far too many badly bred breeds out there. I hope this info helps.
