Is a border terrier the right dog for us?

Hello, I hope this is the right forum. I'm new and not too sure.

Anyway. My family are moving house soon and should be settled around mid september - early october. One of the reasons (albeit pretty far down the list) is so that we can buy a puppy. Now, my parents are dead set on getting a border terrier, but we already own 2 chinchillas and they will be moving with us too. I'm concerned that a border terrier will try to go for our chinchillas, because well, it's a terrier and that's what they were bred to do. From what I've read I also understand that border puppies can be hard to train, so I'm not so sure we could train the puppy to say, not go upstairs where the chinchillas will be (They're going to have thier own room in the new house to get them out in of a night). My mum thinks we can just shut the door on the chinchillas room, but I don't know if that will actually happen. The house we will be moving to will have a large garden, so space is not a problem. My father also plans to take the dog to work with him in a florists they've just purchased, so the dog will need to be sociable with other people.
I guess what I'm asking is whether or not a border terrier would be right for us, and if not, what breed would you reccomend for us?
Any help is really appreciated here, Thanks.

As much as your parents want you to get a terrier,it dosen't really sound like the right dog for you.terriers are VERY VERY hipper(i learned from maney personal experinces... is what i looked like by the end of the day..haha).They are social but tend to be agressive when annoyed. All dogs are diffrent and are able to be trained.but terriers need walks, about 2 times a day....i would recomend a poodle because they are very smart and are social and easey to train...A golden retrivers are VERY sweet and intellgent dogs.i would HIGHLY recomed one...if you want a smaller dog you can also choose a basset hound(i have one and just adore him) or a small collie....those are just some of the amazing breeds to choose frome...i hope it helps!!....p.s. please message me if you decide waht breed your getting..i wanna see pics...lol
