Question Bassett Hound pup

We are adopting a full blood Bassett Hound puppy tomorrow. She will be within 2 to 3 days of her 8week birthday. From what I've read, this breed is very family-friendly. We plan on keeping her inside the house during the day, but allowed outside when we get home. She'll be in a large, properly outfitted, crate/cage/pen. I haven't "puppy proofed" our gates well enough to feel comfortable leaving her outside while we aren't there. Anybody here have experience with this breed? What sort of toys would y'all recommend we get? I plan on getting a Kong, but would like to get some other things to keep her busy.

Congrats on the new pup Jbird! I would just pick up a variety of toys and she'll let you know what kind she likes best. each dog has a different personality so their likes and dislikes can vary. i find that all mine have loved stuffed toys with squeakers in them, but mine also like to tear the stuffing out all over the house so might want to be prepared for that one.

also you mentioned that she will be crated in a large crate during the day? if you're going to crate her as part of her house breaking, which is always a great idea, you might want to make sure that you can put a partition in it and give her more room as she grows. during housebreaking you really only want her to have enough room to stand up, sit down, turn around, and lay down comfortable...any more than that and she will likely potty at one in of the crate and sleep in the other, making it harder to house break her.

if you get a chance post a few pics of you new baby and congrats again!

I just picked up a basset/beagle mix... he loves loves loves this weird looking squeek toy called the flea... it was at walgreens. He wont even go on a car ride with out it. He carrys it everywhere. He is also now a fan of the tennis ball... its good for his teething phase too.

Enjoy.... they are soooo cute and a cuddle bug.

ps... they are known to pass some brutal gas. Which I will say can be alarming.
