Hey guys! I'm new to this forum (literally just registered) and thought I should start by introducing myself and, of course, introducing my lovely little dog. I am a member for a forum for all of my other animals (horse and Budgies) but never registered to a dog forum. Figured it was about time I did. What's nice is that this forum is very much the same layout and rules as the other forums, so it's been pretty easy to make my way around it.
Okay, so a little about myself. I've loved animals all of my life and have been extremely blessed to own 4 of my own (all of whom are pictured below in my signature). Tessa is my APHA mare, Hermes & Izzy are my two entertaining Budgies, and Bella is my dog. I'll probably post a thread in the "Other Pets" section of this forum later on to introduce them in greater detail. I am a Christian and love being in God's creation, especially spending time with His animals. I am also an artist and find my inspiration in animals, specifically my own. I absolutely LOVE reading and name most of my animals after books. My favorite show is Once Upon A time (been watching it for over 1/3 of my life lol since I started watching it when I was 10 and it's now on its 6th season).
Enough about me, time to introduce the reason I registered on this forum! Bella is my 5 year old Schnoodlepoo. I know that's a crazy weird breed name, so I'll explain. Bella's parents were a Schnoodle (Schnauzer x Poodle) and a Poodle. We got Bella from a breeder in Iowa that my Grandma knew and had gotten many of her dogs from and had gotten some dogs from her for some of my other family members. My cousins used to own Bella's 1/2 sister. So we asked my grandma to pick out a puppy for us and when she was 10 weeks old they flew her over to me!
I got her when I was 10 and my parent's agreement to getting a dog was that I would train her, take care of her, do all the not-so-fun jobs that come with a dog, etc. I was thrilled! Since she was going to be a semi-family dog, we had to agree on a name. It took awhile, but we finally agreed on Bella. I read many of Victoria Stilwell's books (My favorite show at the time was It's Me Or The Dog) and a few of Cesar Millan's as well. I ended up training Bella with a little of a mix of each and just made up some techniques as well
She was kind of a nervous puppy so I tailored the training methods to what she responded to best. When we first got her, she refused to walk (would sit down and not budge), was terrified of cars, trash cans, anything bigger than her (which was pretty much everything since she was a whopping 4 lbs
). My parents were definitely re-thinking their decision about getting a dog, haha. Luckily we got her close to summer, so when school was out for the year I was able to devote my time to training my little girl. I worked with her on her fear and walking issues, and trained her to heel, sit, do some tricks, the basics. After a few weeks she would walk, and not only walk but walk right past those terrifying trash cans and cars. I was so proud of her!
Later on, I started rollerblading and decided I'd try to teach her to do that with me as well (I on my blades, Bellz running with me) My parents were very doubtful since she wouldn't come within 5 feet of the things, but I worked with her and now she's a rollerblading pro! She loves going out to rollerblade with my neighbor and her golden retriever- we actually just got back from a run. Rollerblading builds up some great muscle on her and she's in crazy good shape. When we took her to the vet a while back he was surprised to find how much muscle she has on her tiny legs. She's actually strong enough that she pulls me if she decides to chase after something
Bella is my little shadow. (She's actually keeping me company as I write this) She does pretty much everything with me and I love her like crazy! I used to take her Trick-Or-Treating with me too- we'd dress up as something together: A vet and her patient, Wonder Woman and super dog, a police officer and police dog She's a smart little thing, too! She knows tons of tricks and can play the piano, bowl (with a foam set), run an agility course, and more! Looking back, I still can't believe that she turned out so well. I mean, I was only 10 years old! I can't believe my parents let a little kid train a dog by herself, but it all worked out, thankfully!
Sorry for the really long post but thanks for reading! Some pics of my precious Bella below. Only a few since this is an already long post, but I think I'll make a photography thread of Belle-Bellz sometime
My little snowmobile
Showing off her foam bowling set. I'll post a video of her bowling sometime
She loved the beach when we took her to the Oregon Coast! She adored chasing the seagulls and sniffing at all the new smells!
After a long day of running at the beach, she earned herself a nap
Here she is modeling her superdog costume!
Bella engaged her western side when I got a horse
I think she modeled the hat quite nicely.
