Advice needed for riding in car

hi all! I have a 1 yr old Aussie, and he is terrible riding in the car!!! Its not that he is afraid, he LOVES going in the car.. but he goes insane.. The entire ride (seriously, no matter how long the drive he wont stop), he barks and barks and barks, and runs back and forth between the windows like a nut. I had to buy that car barrier to keep him confined to the very back of my SUV so he wont run all over the place. I have tried putting him in the backseat with the seatbelt, and using a crate and neither worked at all. The crate was actually worse because he still jumped all over the place, bashing his face into the crate.. he's actually made himself bleed on multiple occasions! Im really not sure what else to try?? Any suggestions? Even a covered crate made no difference!
Thanks!
