My yorkie won't potty outside!

I have a 3 month old yorkie and I'm having an incredible hard time making her potty outside.
I know the best way is to crate train her but once you put her in the cage she starts yapping so loud the neighbors can hear her from inside their house.

If she pottys in the floor I tell her no and put her outside but that's quite pointless considering she already did her business.
The worst part is, when she first wakes up, I put her outside. I continue to put her outside every 45mins. But she does the same thing, she goes outside, stays outside for ~15mins, come back in and INSTANTLY find a place and potty.

I also know to watch the "signs" of her needing to potty, and I do. But sometimes it's hard because she will wander around aimlessly sniffing, and that's exactly what she does when she has to potty, starts sniffing.

I did not have this much problem out of my shih zu and he goes to the potty outside everytime no problem. Every dog I have had, has never had a problem. Obviously they took a little bit of a work, as all dogs do. But I have been trying for 2 months to potty train this puppy and she just absolutely refuses.
Please help I love this dog but if I can't get her to potty outside, I feel that I'm gonna have to give her to someone else. I have 2 kids, one being small and I can't worry about whether or not their going to be playing in dog poo in their room when I'm not looking...

she's 3 months old. Dogs can't even fully control their bladder muscles til 16 weeks. Give it some time. Have you thought about potty bells

Did you get her at 4 weeks old? That's way to young to pull a pup from it's mother and way to young to try housetraining her. Trying to house train a pup at that age is like trying to potty train a 1 year old baby. Both are infants and two young to even begin to understand the concept.

Reprimanding her if you catch her peeing is pointless, at best it teaches her nothing, at worse it teaches her that you don't like to see her potty and she'd better hide to do it. If you catch her mid pee, pick her up and bring her outside to finish, if you don't catch her in the act there's nothing you can do but clean up the accident.

It's not that she is refusing to potty outside, it's that she honestly doesn't know to. It also sounds like she has WAY to much freedom. She needs to be crated, in an ex-pen, or tethered to you, when you cannot watch her like a hawk after she's pottied outside, or if she went out and didn't potty. Also once she does potty outside try leaving her out an extra 5 to 10 minutes to make sure she's finished. One of the reasons I now know my boy was so hard to housetrain was because he didn't empty his bladder all at once. He'd pee, I'd bring him in, he'd pee on the floor 10 minutes later. I should have left him outside for a little while after he peed so he could finish.

Here's two threads that may help you train her. http://www.dogforum.com/dog-training...ning-faq-3974/ http://www.dogforum.com/housebreakin...-how-tos-2135/

How do you potty train if you don't crate train?

Nobody uses crates in my country and generally house doggies have free roam of the house. Leesi also doesn't poo outside during the day when I'm not home but my mom is. At night I watch her like a hawk...she gets a bit sneaky looking and then I know she needs to go even if we just went outside. She never pees in the house though.

Maybe some dogs just take to it easier?

Agree though 3 months is VERY young and you're going to have to have a lot more patience with her. Dont bring her back inside until she's gone potty outside. Or keep her next to you inside for 15-20 minutes and then try again.

DO crate train her i know she will bark and cry and it makes you feel bad but persist and she wil get used to it in time and stop barking and crying or whining. Explain to neighbours she needs crate training and you are trying your best to do that so if she is barking etc please ignore her and if you could please be patient and put up with it till she is used to it then it would be fully appreciated.

Crate training has truly helped my puppy! After i get back home i wait till she is calm open the door and say outside wee wee's good girl and she follows me outside adn does her buisness.

I found i have to leave jessie out for up to 5 mins so she poo's if she doesnt i keep a eye on her and let her out as soon as i see her heading to back door via laundry.

Welcome to the forum.
You say you tell her "No" and then take her outside. Try staying as calm as you can when you see her going...say her and while carrying her outside...say potty outside. She may now be afraid of you seeing her go potty. So when outside turn your back and peek so you can praise her when she goes outside.

Crates are the easiest method of house training, but with a yorkie you could try a human play pen so she does not feel so enclosed and alone. Use it just like a kennel...take her out first thing in the morning...bring her in and make her wait in it for at least 5 minutes before you feed...Take her back out 20-30 minutes after she eats. Always take her out before you put her in it and then every time you take her out of it. She will learn you just have to be consistent and praise like mad when she goes potty outside.. Praise everything you like that she does so learns to really like the praise/good attention.

One of the problems of taking a puppy too early from it's mother is "inability to housebreak". From what you write, the puppy is 12 weeks old, less 8 weeks = 4 weeks. The poor thing.

If she has not been messing in the crate, then use the crate. Go outside WITH her and give her a little treat the INSTANT she pees and the instant she poops. This means you have to have a treat in your hand (it can be a kibble). Praise. Then, walk around the yard for another couple of minutes. This gives her fresh air, and you can make sure she doesn't need to go again. As Rain wrote, some dogs go twice.

Put her on a regular feeding schedule. She should be fed three times a day and will potty 25 - 35 minutes after eating. This is your hint. She should be on a high quality food. If she is on a high quality food she will potty less often- easier for you. Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble reviews hundreds of dog foods, try a five or six star food for her.
