Just feel like having a rant!

I got a new puppy bullmastiff a week ago and I love him with all my heart. Sadly my last bullmastiff, Jenny, died about 4 years ago from lymphoma and it has taken me until now to get another dog. Anyway the new dog is only 2 months old and is not yet fully vaccinated so he can't go out. What drives me nuts is he'll pee somewhere and I'll get up and clean it and then go and wash my hands and as I return to the living room he's peed again! Little bugger! I know it's not his fault, it's just annoying and I felt like ranting. Thanks for listening

I would take him right out side after the pee on the carpet and then crate while you clean it up. I didn't live in a state of pee with Zoey you dont with your puppy.

PREVENT!
and
SUPERVISE!

keys to potty training success!

Crate training is ideal, I agree. I have two 8 week old pups right now and they sleep right through the night without needing to go, and we don't have any accidents. If I can do it with two, you can do it with one; haul him out every hour on the hour, and crate when you can't supervise. :)

Things will go much better for you if you house train him now, even to pee pads. If you don't house train him, he will house train himself, to pee in the house.

You see, house training is a HABIT. What ever he does, will become the habit for the future. So by not house training him now, you are teaching him to potty in the house.

Stone floors can absorb the pee smell. (not sure what you mean by "stone") If your floors smell like pee, he will pee there again, and again, and again.

He's getting his rabies shot today so I took him out yesterday to introduce him to the outside world but he was terrified and refused to walk. I tried taking him out today and took some treats with to entice him to walk. It helped a little, he walked very slowly if the treat was on offer but most of the time still refused to walk. Any tips on how to get him to walk?

Just forget about "going for a walk" right now. Get him used to being outside 3 feet from the door. Don't push him. Have fun with him outside. Lots of treats, lots of play.

Take your time. The basis for success will be creating a happy feeling for him in the outdoors. If you push him too fast, you will create fearful feelings. So pay the most attention to how he is FEELING, not how far you've gone from the house.

Build a strong foundation of happiness at being outside, and the walking part will come naturally in a few months.

Most puppies don't want to "go for a walk" at that age anyway. They feel too vulnerable to be far from the "den."

Thanks for the advice, I took him to this little park across the street from my house on the way back from the vet this evening, he happily walked around the grass but didn't pee or poop and as soon as we got back to the street he refused to walk again. But you're right, just take it slowly and let him go in his time.
