we WERE doing well......

My 10 week old went 3 whole days with no accidents in the house. I knew he wasn't potty trained yet, but I saw light at the end of the tunnel. On day 4 he had a couple of pee accidents, but I take full blame (which of course I know I should ) because he tried telling me, but I didn't think he was trying to say he had to go out.

Well, today is day 5 and it's like he was starting over again! I mean, he was peeing everywhere! Nothing has changed as far as his schedule so I don't get it. We took him out about every 15 minutes and he still went in the house.

The only thing that's different is he went to the vet yesterday for his second set of shots. Could that have anything to do with it??? He's really whiny too, today. We can't figure it out. He's not hungry (he's eating), he doesn't have to go out, he's been out to play and we played with him inside, but he's whining like he needs something and we can't figure it out.

Any thoughts?

hmm...been a whiles since a puppy... but i think that just like babies the shots can make a puppy a bit grumpy/off??? at the least, a vet visit can be stressful...maybe someone has something more to add?

the housebreaking thing is...and you seem to get it already, but i'll say it anyway... you just have to supervise him more...and make sure that he is given the best reward ever when he goes outside... it is painfully simple, and yes difficult at the same time... you always find yourself wanting to relax into the "oh good he's got it" mind-set...me too! i always move a bit too fast with stuff... anyway...you need to establish a reward history for going outside...and really you haven't had him for that long and he really isn't that old, it will happen... i'd say that if you force yourself to be overly diligent for the next 3 months...you will be super pleasantly surprised at how well he is doing after...

It's a baby. You will have backsliding. I have a puppy 11 weeks old. I am JUST transitioning her from a larger play area to the crate for resting and sleeping at night.

She has periods loose in the house, but only under my direct supervision. I put her out at least every 15 minutes when she is playing vigorously. She has not had an accident in the house in several days, but she will! It's just to be expected with puppies this age.

Make sure you are praising and rewarding for outdoor elimination. And keep at it, he will get it, he is just still very young.
