housetraining help

hi i have a 10 week old german shepherd i havent and dont want to crate train him he stays and sleep in the hallway with my older dog which leads to the garden and i leave the door open most of the day he can be pretty good with doing his stuff outside. During the day he will go outside when he needs a poop but he sometimes comes in the hallway to do a wee how can i stop him from doing that and during the night i put paper down for him he always uses the paper but how can i teach him to hold it longer i always make sure he goes out before i go to bed and im usually up early but there is always loads of poo and wee when i go in there in the morning i know he is still young and he has been pretty good with his housetraining but i dont understand why he will poo outside but comes in to wee

Hiya, U say that he has access to the garden at all times. Do u go out with him & see exactly what he is doing? Does he know that he is suppose to mess & wee in the garden? Do u praise him when he does what he is suppose to do in the garden. A friend i know was having the same problem as u & wot helped was she supervised all his messing & peeing & she didn't have any accidents in the house.

yeah he has access to the garden all the time apart from when i go to bed i never manage to c him do a poo anymore as he just goes out and does it i do take him out with me and wait till he does a wee and give him lots of praise and i've also court him doing a wee inside a few times and i say no to him and take him outside and put him on the grass but then he just lies down and looks at me while im waiting for him to go for a wee so im at a loss at what to do

wot about giving him a treat then, coz it is difficult if he has peed inside coz he won't need to do one again for a while. Do you put them out as soon as he wakes up & when you feed him? Maybe if you did this he may get into a routine. Wot about restricting his freedom to the garden then you know exactly what he's doing?
When my dog was a pup i was in a flat & didn't have a garden attached to it. So i took him out as soon as he woke up, after feeding, after playing, plus in between these times.
Its frustrating when you don't know how to sort it.

i cant restict his freedom as i keep the door open for my older dog as she likes to be out he has his food outside with the rest of my animals so he tends to do what he needs to outside after his food now he just tends to do a wee inside when i cant watch him like in the last 10 mins while i was sorting out my baby i went out there and he had done a wee inside even tho the dorr to the garden was open so i showed him what he had done and but him outside for 5 mins then i let him back in and 10 mins after that i went out there again and he had done the same thing

Read this thread!
House Training How Tos:
you should find it helpful.

I'm not sure if it says this in the thread, but since your puppy is paper trained, you can slowly move the paper towards the door and even eventually outside on the other side of the door. If your puppy ever misses the paper, then you went to far, to fast and need to move it back.
However, I would supervise and make sure he is going potty outside when you are home and use the papers for nightime and when you are away from home.

I also want to stress the importance of supervision and rewarding your puppy for going potty outside.

One last thing! Be sure to clean up any accidents with a proper cleaner. Enzyme based cleaners should remove all odors. Any smells (even if you cant smell it) can tell your puppy it should go potty inside.
