Snickers first day of doggie day care...

Snickers went to doggie day care for the first time yesterday. I dropped her off in the morning for a 4 hour temperament evaluation. The lady explained how she was going to introduce her to the group...she was going to take her in on leash and let the other dogs come sniff and then she was going to let her go if she was comfortable. Snickers LOVES dogs so I knew she would love the tiny dogs as well as the huge horses! There was a really large room with about 20 dogs all spread out and then you saw them all congregate in a circle and all I could see was the lady and a leash...every so often I could see her little tag wagging like crazy! She let her go and Snickers was running out saying "hi" to as many dogs as she could and she immediately had a following!

I called close to lunch time to see how she was doing and they said "Perfect!". They said she hasn't stopped since the moment she got there and I could hear her barking over the phone! Apparently, she really likes one of the dog watchers and she followed him everywhere he went and a bunch of dogs followed her!

They said she loves the snow (I knew that) and was jumping from snow pile to snow pile! They said she is not afraid of ANYONE or ANYTHING!

I knew she would love the other dogs and I'm glad she had another good experience. I think this is going to be a weekly thing.

Oh, and when we arrived on the bulletin board it said "Welcome Snickers!"

Sounds awesome!

There aren't any facilities like that here, I wish there were.

I'm thinking once a week probably on Wednesdays and any other day time that I don't want to leave her crated if I can't get home to let her out.

If there isn't anything like that where you live I smell a business opportunity...

Is she exhausted?

How much are they charging. I just googled and there is one in my town. They charge $22 for a full day.

Yes! When I got her home she fell asleep on one of her beds and she would not move. I had to pick her up and carry her to her crate.

They told me she was going nonstop for 4 hours so it's no wonder she was dog tired!

It cost me $12 for the morning, and $19 for a full day if I only go once a week. If I go more it's a reduced rate.

All of the people there LOVE her and 3 of the workers own Bassets so she's right at home!

Awesome!! Now you have me googling-Mikey would love that-as long as they don't walk them anywhere unfenced once a week of doggy daycare would be so fun! How did you find the place?

The trainer of Snickers' puppy training class recommended doggie day care as a good source of exercise and recommended close to where I live...she knows the owner. I really like the owner...I asked her about discipline and she said she uses either a stern voice or occasionally a water bottle. I said I wasn't wild about the idea of the water bottle and she said she wouldn't use it on Snickers, and would let me know if her behavior became a problem. I thought this was great because other places may just say "that's our policy". As I was standing there she greeted EVERY dog that came in by name...it was really cool!

Oh, did I mention she passed her AKC STAR puppy test?
