She came shooting into the house again tonight, full blast run from across the yard. I still have yet to see if it is the elk that has come back or something else. But Jaya was very much afraid. Earlier today she was outside several times and did her trot around the yard a few times before coming in.

This running to the house now for a 2nd night in a row, (well 3 times if you count the night I actually saw the elk going after her) - since I haven't seen what she's been afraid of these past two nights, it's kind of creeping me out.

yes as much as what it is a tiny bit good that it makes her see the house as a good thing and comfort, I would also not like her being afraid and not knowing what it is that is outside. maybe have a good old stake out and sit quietly in front of the window for a few hours next time you let her out?

I don't know how affordable they are, but you could try a trail cam, just to see if anything is approaching/in your yard.
Or, it could be, she is just remembering the elk from before, and wants to come in before it comes back? Also, if the elk has a routine that takes it near your property at the same time each night, Jaya could be smelling her on the wind, and works herself up so when you open the door, she's more than ready to come inside, fearing that the elk is coming back.

Last night (well early morning, around 1 am) was weird, I let Jaya out, and about 20 minutes later, I opened the door to let her in. She was near the porch when I opened the door, which is unusual, usually she's clear across the yard. But, she trotted away before I could step out onto the porch.

Straight ahead of me, probably the length of about 2 football fields and up on a foothill, was a huge fire. I called 911 and they said someone reported it about 5 minutes before I did and they thought the hockey rink was on fire. I told the dispatcher 'No, it's much farther north than that, even north of the dog shelter which is about 4 blocks north of the hockey ring.

He relayed that info the the firetrucks who were already headed up to that area, They couldn't have missed the fire though once they got up on that 'bar' and saw the flames. It burned high and hot from 1 am to 3 am, when I finally went to bed. And the sound of the fire could be heard from my back porch.

Strangely enough, while Jaya was aware of the fire, she wasn't freaking out too much, and she took her good sweet time in coming in like she's been doing since HaHa's death. So the fire and the crackling, hissing sounds it made didn't terrify her.

I wish I could get a night time cam to monitor my back yard and just see what travels through it during the night. I might then be able to pinpoint what has Jaya so afraid of that she's coming into the house at a full run.

Wow, nearby fires are uncomfortable. Nice work letting them know location a bit better.

Glad Jaya coped okay.
