Have a female dog already, should i get a another female or male

Hi, i have a female 6 month old maltese x, in a couple of months we will be getting a staffy puppy. What sex do people recommend that we get. We have read that you should always get the opposite sex dogs, is this right. Also i am unsure whether i should put the 2 dogs together at night, im thinking it might help the new puppy settle, what do people think. Your advice would be appreciated.

People have different opinions. I think female and female can go great, male and male can go great, and female and male can go great. Just depends on the dogs. People seem to have better luck with male and female, rather then both female though.

Are you sure you want another puppy before yours is even finished growing up?

I think it all depends on the dogs. All of our dogs (and cats) are females and everyone gets along very well.

I ditto DeeSpark's question above. For the sake of training, this may not be a very good idea. If you want another dog, an adult may be a better idea (or waiting until the maltese is an adult and very well trained).

Two puppies is a bad idea most of the time

Gender IME does not matter.

I don't think gender really matters, we have 2 males and 2 females in our household. It depends on the particular dogs. And I agree with everyone else, it's a BAD idea to get another puppy when you current dog is still a puppy. I say wait until your dog is about 2 and well trained.

I stick with females. I feel they have better a temperament and no chance of Marking in the house issues.

I don't think it's a good mix of breeds to own. Bully breeds are very strong and play rough. I doubt a Maltese is going to appreciate that. Also, are you talking about an American Staffordshire Terrier or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It it's the latter, then it's not quite as bad since they're smaller. I would NEVER leave an AmStaff or Pit Bull alone with another dog, especially a small and fragile Maltese. Please be careful.
