Oh yeah-I think that's most dogs reaction-and the trouble is bears get REALLY angry with dogs- I can't remember the stats but most bear attacks are precipitated by dogs being around...
I like the bear spray idea-you know for when your walking.
Can you put your garbage out later-like not the night before but the day of maybe?

Heheh I WANT a moat too!!!!! I've always wanted one hehe

I wasn't sure if grizzly bears ranged down by you...in that case, I'd say get a chainsaw

Oooh...no, chainsaw? Entirely too close of a combat weapon to be effective...you'd need a 6' bar just to remain outside swatting range...

The right tool for this is definitely a 10ga shotgon loaded with slugs, OR a .50cal chaingun...of course then you need a vehicle to mount it on...go with the 10ga, make sure it's pump and holds a minimum of 8+1 rounds.

Then, if you encounter a griz, close your eyes and hope for the best...

edit: Oops...forgot this was dogforum...please, carry on with your chainsaw discussion...

there are these little 'things" that when you pull on the string, they pop loudly, like a firecracker
THIS! This would be perfect, similar effect as a gun.

Black Bears tend to be more...well... "friendly" I put that in quotes because I dont quite know if many people find it fun and friendly lol...

It's pretty safe to say that in a life/death situational encounter with a grizzly bear, I wouldn't be ringing G & F, to make sure I could save my life...

However, my opinion for the rest of the world is yes, please, call G & F in the event you get cornered by a pissed-off griz so you can understand your legal options.

(That final statement can be filed under "Great ways to thin the herd...")

oh no in life and death it is legal to shoot to kill. I just mean to keep them off the property period. If you just start shooting bears and your neighbors complain and its constant you may get a surprise visit from the department lol which is no bueno

Reminds me of a situation that happened in Montana. Loaded grain train derailed in the mountains. Spilled grain fermented and the bears began to eat it. Ended up with drunk bears falling all over themselves. I think they cleaned up the grain after that, lol.
