| That blog post is from Aug 08 so I figured the dog had been euthanzied already but apparently is still in care and on death row...1.5 years later?? FREE BRINDI
Here's why the dog is on death row
" What went wrong? While I generally am able to keep Brindi under my control, on certain occasions, resulting from unfortunate coincidences, she suddenly went after other dogs. She grabbed them by the scruff of the neck and just held. I was able to separate them quickly, and none of the dogs required extensive medical treatments. The first was apparently reported not because of the other dog’s condition – the owner declined my offer to pay for a vet - but out of concern that “it might have been a child”. The police issued me a warning and a further one for not having a municipal licence, which I made sure to obtain immediately. The second incident, reported last April, resulted in a minor injury and would have normally resulted in a fine, possibly an order to build a fence . Instead, they issued Brindi, who rarely ever licks anybody, let alone threatens them, with a permanent muzzle order, requiring strict compliance, even on my own property." And the update six days ago: The SPCA and Animal Services have decided to change the time and location of my brief weekly visits with Brindi. Last Wednesday when I arrived at 1 pm, I was asked, "Didn't you hear?" It turned out that the two parties decided that we could no longer spend time outdoors at 1 pm; instead we would be inside and the visit would start at 4 pm. This was not something I had agreed on, for two reasons. First, Brindi needs all the outdoor exercise she can get. Or at least fresh air. She doesn't really get much exercise in the pen. Second, in the room they allow us to use, which is a newly refurbished waiting room to the left of the lobby, Brindi can see out the windows to the street. And boy does she know it's the outside world and boy does she WANT TO BE FREE. It was torture for us both, frankly, as I posted last week. She was the best girl throughout but she could not resist jumping on the couch and sitting prettily while gazing out those windows with longing. I tried once to get her down and she obeyed, but I didn't have the heart to do it again, and I ended up just sitting next to her on the couch. By the end of the time, I was hugging her close and praying and weeping all at once, with my head resting on her back. It was awful. Yesterday my lawyer reminded me - inadvertently, really - about this change. He had tried to no avail to talk the SPCA out of the the change. They claim they have to watch me during the visit, more closely than they do outside, so that I don't give Brindi "contraband" treats. As if I would deliberately make my dog sick. In the event, nobody watched me anyhow, and it was moot. The person from Animal Services assigned to watch me spent the time out in the lobby deep in conversation with an SPCA investigator. By today my lawyer was supposed to have worked out with HRM to get the agreement back to where it was before. But that hasn't happened. So I dread another tortuous time with Brindi in that room with those windows, a single pane of glass the only thing separating her from the freedom we both long for.

| I really don't know how I feel on the Brindi case, I've read up on it numerous times and still can't come to a conclusion. While I understand Francesca's POV and wanting her dog back. But Brindi has attacked 3 dogs, one which was injured. She told animal control on numerous times that she would contain the dog and yet still the dog was able to get out and attack. I understand accidents happen but 3 times? She was also told that the dog is to be muzzled everytime she goes outside which did not happen.
IMHO I think Brindi deserves another chance, but with someone more knowledgeable on raising dog aggressive dogs. Her home is not suitable to house a dog anyway, there are holes in the floor that lead directly outside (cold air gets in, very drafty) Her heat and electricity have been shut off. The house isn't suitable for a Francesca let alone animals. |

| Neat-so you have personal knowledge of the case!
I read up on it-and yes, I mean-I feel for the dog. And wish they could give him a chance for someone else to handle him. BUT honestly after reading her blog-The dog got out and injured dogs-on more then one occaisions. That's just plain negligent... |

| ^^agreed.
I have personal knowledge only because my aunt keeps shoving this story down my throat. She's on Francesca's side and wants the dog home with her. I've given up having the "debate" with her. LOL |

| Always the dog who pays the price...
I think in this case people feel for the dog and mistakenly take her side. She's from what I'm reading negligent. She shouldn't get the dog back, and shouldn't be allowed to own them (extreme maybe...). The dog should get another chance...
I mean-ok...
Say a 12 year old does something heinous...and the parents were totally negligent and may have caused it.
Parent's would likely/hopefully lose custody and kid would get a chance..Should be the same thing with dogs! |

| I wonder if she would be willing to give up the dog to a new owner to save his life? |

| I don't know...I'm not even sure they could legally do that? (not legally give up the dog, but legally allow someone to take a dog _I mean the spca which has custody now-who was aggressive. If a shelter does that in Canada-they are liable if the dog has incidents (as far as I understand the laws).
I would be willing to do that. It would hurt (like ALOT) but if I were in that situation I'd rather my dog lived with someone who loved and looked after him if I couldn't. |

| I don't know if this girl would do that, she seems to be set on getting her dog back. She has even quit working to devote all her time into the campaign and has accumilated hundred of THOUSANDS of dollars in lawyer fee's. Let alone if she looses this case officially then she will have to pay boarding fee's at the SPCA will I believe is in the tens of thousands now. |
