| Well what are you plans? Do you have guidelines as to what is ok and whats not? Will he sleep in your room, in his crate, on the bed, where will you feed him, what time etc etc.
its best IMO to come up with a routine and stick to it as best you can. Its hard with the first dog because you're starting from scratch. When I bring home a new guy I just plug him into the routine, and the things that must be taught to understand the routine I start teaching. Dogs like structure.
I got lucky, Chili only cried, like two nights, but i think it was because he was ill. Most people ignore it. So Iam not much help on that front.
I guess iam asking, what you you want him to do? |

| I am going to have everything in my room, my room is HUGE, about the size of our living room, it was supposed to be a play area room for like a pool table and bar and stuff but made it into my room so I want to confine him in here for about a week since its such a big area and I can also keep him close. I will still of course let him outside and stuff too. I am going to have his crate (where he will be sleeping) against the wall next to the bed, his food dishes next to that and then his thing of toys and stuff will also be in the room. Is this a good idea to keep him in my room? I spend literally my whole day in there (I am on my comp in my room now lol) and I would feel best if he was close to me in my room with me. He has tons of room in here since its such a big spacey room. The whole middle of the floor is open too.
What do you think? |

| sounds peachy to me. Personally I like to feed inside the crate, helps accellerate the training IMO. You may also want to regulate his water, som' people do that and it helps predict urination.
Figure that hes going to chew on anything and everything, so be ready to stuff toys in his face. The main concerns the first few days will be potty training and chewing. So it will mostly just be an issue of constant supervision |

| I met Payslee when she was 2 weeks old and visited her weekly until I brought her home so she never cried..I did try the crate-training thing, but dang, I'm a softie and the first time she looked sad alone in her crate, I picked her up and put her in bed with me. (I have a King sized bed) I'm a very light sleeper so when she would wake up, I'd wake up..and take her out. Never had any problems. She's now crate trained, but I don't put her in it at night..
I'd say you need lots of fun toys, chewies, and puppy stuff. Start socializing as soon as you can because thier minds are like little sponges at that age! When I brought Sawyer home at 16 weeks, he had Payslee so he never cried either..I also plopped him into bed with me..I know its sometimes a no-no, but I would'nt have it any other way! |

| I crate train all my puppies - makes it easier later on.
The first night I set up a exercise pen and fastened it to his crate. This made an area for sleeping (crate) and an area where he could stretch his feet (exercise pen).
I also put a kiddie pool with pee pads inside the exercise so he could relieve himself if he didn't wake me (took all of 2 minutes to teach him to use it).
Here is what the set up looked like (this is our cabin and it was in the middle of a renovation, so please excuse the mess):
This set up is good too if you know puppy will be alone for a few hours as well.
And yes, that is me sleeping on the cold tile floor (with blankets of course) the first night he was home. He was able to wake me up if he needed to pee or wanted to cuddle.. lol. |
