Dont' shoot the dog is interesting because she puts the principles to use in HUMAN contexts...she talks in depth about modifying behavior of the people around you.

Karen worked with dolphins for a number of years, I liked reading the dolphin stories she uses as examples.

I hear tho, that in person, shes a bit dry to talk too

One of the books i have is Puppy's First Steps which is actually very helpful for people getting a puppy. I always recommend finding a book on the specific breed you are getting.

I agree. I loved "Shih-tzu's for Dummies" it told me so much about the breed, and how to groom them, raise them, etc.. And I also love that Puppies magazine that you can get at the checkout counter at Petsmart. It was loaded with TONS of good information.

Right now I'm reading "For the Love of a Dog" by Patricia McConnel, and its awesome. All of her books are very good. This one is a little 'deep' but a great read.

My absolutely number 1. are The Other Side of the Leash and For the Love of a Dog by Patricia McConnell. She has a wonderful writing style and a common sense approach. I keep coming back to these books over and over again!

Merle's Door

Just finished an amazing book -
Merle's Door: Lessons From a Freethinking Dog Merle's Door: Lessons From a Freethinking Dog

Written by award winning nature writer Ted Kerasote; about his relationship with the stray lab-mix he adopts. Or, perhaps, about the stray lab-mix that adopts Kerasote. A remarkable story, interspersed with [very accessible and layman-friendly] scientific perspectives on canine evolution and behavior. A terrific read. WARNING: have some tissues handy at the end.
