Question After bath crazy dogs

So everyone seems in agreeance-after a bath the dog goes 'crazy' and zooms all over the house. In fact for me, if we let Mikey outside, he digs holes and rolls around in it (He is not being a bad dog-he has designated digging spots in the yard )

So I'm reading this book "Inside of a Dog' and it's basically a look at their sensory systems and what that really means for us. I am really liking it as I studied perception all the way through to the grad level and find it very interesting.

What it basically suggests is this: You know how your dog goes crazy to roll in something disgusting? That's very similar to how they act when they get out of the bath -and perhaps they are trying to rid 'cocunut lavendar' and get back some of thier VERY important, distinctive doggy smell.

It makes a LOT of sense to me; given how they are such olfactory animals-and also how similar the behavior seems compared with when the roll in bird poop or dead fish. Mikey even rolls after a bath if allowed in dirt Especially the dirt where somebody's cat poops in our yard.

What do you guys think?

very interesting... and you're probably on to something imo... tho, clover hasn't ever rolled in anything nasty (not that i'm aware of anyway ) he seems to do it to help himself dry off??? he'll rub into a towel when i hold it up and roll around on it... he also loves to roll in the snow and grass... sand on the beach... he also rolls around after he eats... what do you think about that?

I'm not sure about drying off-When they come in from the rain or snow and are the same amount of wet (or out from swimming) I don't see the same behavior-at least in mine It seems to be only when soap is involved ehehe

clover will roll around in stuff whenever he gets wet... like i said the sand at the beach... but he'll do it dry too... *shrugs* i dunno tho... i've only given him 4 baths (maybe 5?) since i got him, but we've gone swimming lots... i dunno, but i really want to read that book tho...

The book is great actually-very interesting read, and she uses a bit of humor. I also bought 'at the other end of the leash' so that's up next

Makes sense.

But Penny is a weirdo! While the other 3 are going nuts after a bath or getting wet, she shakes off and runs to the nearest warm spot (in bed under my comforter or infront of the pellet stove).

My families black lab that has now since passed (RIP) used to jump in her water bucket outside and then roll around in the dirt. We couldn't keep her out of water she just loved it, but everytime afterwards she always felt the need to roll around in the dirt and create a muddy mess!

Oliver is a spaz when I take him out of the tub I dry him off as much as I can with a towel and then he darts off. He runs super fast over EVERYTHING! He is jumping, twisting, shaking, and darting from one room to the next. He does this for a few minutes until he's worn out and then I give him a dry towel and he rubs himself against it while sliding across our tile floor. haha.
