playing a bit too over the top...

Hi,
today he did it again ...it was since the first days we met in the shelter that he wasn't so over the top and I thought he learnt to control that but maybe it will take some time and patience from my side. But I take advices! Basically after a 20 mins of caressing and brushing him, I decided to play with the ball. But he wasn't interested in the ball although he love it, and start jumping on me, biting my legs, arms and holding me with his 2 legs. When I say loud NO! and turn my back to him crossing my arms he seemed to calm down but as soon as I moved, he started biting again. It was a soft, play-like biting but still now my legs are bruised and scratched and so my arms.
I wanted to leave him as soon as he started but I couldn't reach the gate without him starting again. I don't know what clicked him but I'd like to correct this behaviour. I am thinking what would happen if he did that with a baby or my wife, he would easily put them down with his weight. Thanks for your suggestion, I go to clean by bruises !

Yeah, hes still new, it will take time.

For now, play with him closer to the gate so you can excape, or have him tethered to an object so you can walk out of his range would be my two suggestions

I think it's not maybe something abnormal, I walked other young big dogs before at the shelter and they had the same behaviour. It's probably their way of playing amongst dogs, but I have to teach him I'm human and I cannot leave all bruises anytime we play and that he cannot do that with other people too. Good thing is that when I turn his back and try to let him understand that the game is over and ask him to SIT, he does...but it lasts few secs
