| my poodle's peeing problem My fiancé and I have a year and a half old miniature red poodle named Peanut. I found him on the street about six months ago, and decided to take him home. He was quite scared at first, and seemed only to trust me. We had to have all his hair cut, and get him his shots. I’m not sure if the dog had a previous owner, but he looks pure, so I imagine he did. For whatever reason, he got lost, and now has a new home with us.
We trained him and got him fixed, and he’s been a loving part of our family. Everyone loves little peanut, and we couldn’t be happier with him. We often take him to the office during the day, and sometimes he stays with my parents. This month, however, we ran into a bit of a problem.
My fiancé moved into a new condo that shares a kind of split entrance that joins alongside our friend’s place. There’s a common front door that locks, but other than that we leave the doors to the separate condos open, just so we can feel more like family. The problem is that peanut has been peeing in their house all the time!
At first we thought he was just marking his territory in a new house, and that it would have been a one-time thing. Then we thought it might have been because a sofa of ours was in the other apartment, and he smelled our scent, so we washed it with bleach water. Now he’s peeing on the leg of their table. It’s embarrassing and dirty.
We take him for 3 walks a day, and he never has any problems peeing outside. What should we do? We really don’t want to have to divide the house into 2 and lock him out, but until we fix this pee problem this is what we have to do. He’s not an aggressive or dominant dog at all. In fact he’s taken to lying under the bed since we moved into the new place. When company comes over he hangs out with us in the living room, but when it’s just him and my fiancé around, then he often just lies under the bed until it’s time for bed, then goes into his bed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
