okay, maybe a little lame...

hahah not too lame!

yep..no food lure...but still rewarding for position/looking at my right hand...the target hand maintains its high value that way. Its amazing what reward placement does to the behavior. I have been trying to be super careful about it lately.

i've gotten super lazy about it...well not super lazy but not really paying attention, i still do a lot of the right stuff out of habit but i'm not paying attention and doing it deliberately. it was one of the most important things i learned when i was working with the sea lions...man i wish i had the understanding i have now back then...

Iam still learning and messing up at times...I tend to remember things better when I see results from it right away...other wise Im like...naaah.

What I would give to have an hour with a sea lion and a bucket of fish. You have no idea.

when we went to seaworld you could feed them and I had 5-6 fish...I got one to do this cool belly slide thing a couple times.

you should be the one doing that! seriously, you have a great understanding of behavior/training/rewarding etc...and sea lions are soooooo smart...can be scary too tho...try having about 1500 lbs of peeved sea lion slamming you into a wall and barking up fish guts into your face!!!
the program at the zoo had a lot of inconsistency, and everyone fought over how it should be done...that is the sucky thing about those types of jobs, everyone thinks his/her way is best and if you don't have a good team as a foundation, everyone loses even tho everyone has good intentions...i really loved it too...unfortunately "office politics" and one crazy person made it really hard for me to have an active "learning" role in it...i actually got kicked out of the program at one point bc i had a disagreement with said crazy lady...like i said, i wish i knew then what i know now...

I guess I use it lol, I simply point if I was one of them to move to a different spot and wait, they eventually move and eventually pick it up later. I have even done "sit/stays" moved myself, then pointed in front of me and say come then they move to where I am pointing and sit. Don't know if that is not a good thing to do....

doesn't sound like a bad thing to do...maybe just that you could do more with that behavior if you wanted to...i do a lot of pointing too...it's so much easier when the dog understands to place himself where you point then to try to put them there...
i'm going pet store shopping tomorrow, i think i'm gonna check out those fancy stick target things with the clicker in the handle...
