Red face Getting a border collie pup

Hey guys

Im going to be getting a Border collie pup soon, hopefully a female, as have had experience with my previous BC Nipper, who we lost last year at a ripe 10 years old.

I was hoping to find any advice on things ill need to have prior the puppy arriving, the best foods, toys and the best training techniques to use for such a smart breed.

My other BC we had was 11 months when we got him so he was already house trained and had very basic obedience down, but at the time i was young and my mum did all the training. So i am here to learn it for myself! as mum is a stubborn woman and says she wants nothing to do with it and i have to learn myself!

So guys! im here coz i know its a good place to turn to for the best advice!!

Leanne

first, welcome to the forum

i'm sorry to hear about your loss

how long until you get the new pup?

as far as training the dog, i would check out kickopup's channel on youtube... and then read around the forum...

food isn't my forte, but if you browse around you'll find lots of different recommendations...

thanks he was a really fantastic dog it was such a shame i miss him loads.

If i like the one im due to see soon it'll be saturday, if not ill get one around the next 6 months i guess :P

The food question i cant seem to find anything on.

Ive re thought what i wanted to ask on it and here it goes!:-

What type of food would be best for a high energy smart dog like a border collie? Like dry food? canned food? Any specific brands that are best for the higher energy as to not give them more?! haha

thanks!!!!!!

well brands depend on where you are, not sure what you have available to you

grain free and high protein are the way to go... definitely avoid anything with wheat, corn, or soy in it, and avoid meat "meals"

top 3 brands i see recommended are taste of the wild, orijen, and wellness... i like to mix can and dry kibble from time to time... and make sure that i switch protein sources each bag... i personally cannot afford to buy the brands i listed regularly and i use kirkland's signature from costco, it is a middle range quality, very good for the price, i supplement it with the other brands tho...

hope that helped you out
