The way I taught Mandy shame was 'shame on you' then a naughty finger movement-then I guided her to a roll over-and as soon as she was laid down and ready to roll I treated.
Because when their almost ready to roll their paws are in the air-and you can change criteria then-so that they are laying down and the paws should be over the nose

For shame, I put a post-it note on her forehead lol then clicked when she brushed it off. It works pretty well. You could also use tape, just fold part of it so it doesn't all stick to his face, you want him to be able to get it off. Some dogs are goofy and will just smile at you while wearing their new hat, blowing on the tape sometimes works, or you can stick it elsewhere like on the bridge of their nose.

I taught my dog 'shame' by putting a treat under a pillow, so she's more than happy to put her head under the pillow when she's 'ashamed'. It's pretty dang cute and it's her favorite trick. We started practicing it two days ago and she's already doing it without any treats. She's a basset hound, so I'm always suprised at how quickly she picks up on things....though we are having technical difficulties with 'wipe your paws'. I can't get that dog to dig to save her life!

No kidding!! That's clever I work from a 'shake a paw' and go from there-reinforcing for closer to covering face stuff... hmmmm

Wow, dig/wipe your paws has to be the easiest trick Tasha has ever learned lol.

I was wondering how I was gonna shape it or get her to do it so I could name it when I remembered that she's got her own little cue for it. When we were outside one day this summer I was digging at the ground with the tip of my shoe (out of boredom) and she noticed me so she came over sniffing and digging at the spot too. She was a little disappointed I believe when there wasn't anything there tho.

Anyways, I worked off that knowledge and got it going withing a minute. Its too funny though cause when I ran out of food I went to get some more, and when I came back out she ran to her mat and pawed at it. Anyways, not sure if it even counts as a learned trick if she really already sorta knew it. But I'm happy with it, lol.

Now to work on shame...

hey... is "dig/wipe your paws" supposed to be done on a mat/rug? or does it matter? clover picked it up today too TashaHope i think it is his new favorite behavior besides barking and bowing... haven't got it 100% yet, but now i worry he is going to "dig-up" all the throw rugs i have in the house....

I went over to som' dirt outside and pretended there was som'thing cool there...I dug in the dirt...

Chili, being nosy came over and dug too...when he would dig I'd say "digdigdig" and when hes stop i'd shut up.

eventually I would just have to point and say dig and he would.
