| I'm using a paint can myself with Lucky. He got it the first day. What you start out is any movement towards the can, click and reward. Then a nose or paw touch. Then a paw on the can, then both front feet on the can. When on the can, then move slightly left or right and see if their back end moves. Click and reward any steps with their rear feet. We skipped all this with Lucky, he just got up on the can and started doing laps around the can with me within the first 10 minutes. When you are going around with the dog in front, then use a treat or toy in your hand and move your hand slightly out. If the dog moves the rear feet, click and reward. I tried it with Lucky and he immediately fell into heel position, still with his front feet on the can. Then we started doing laps left and right, doing full 360's around the can. And we can move real fast too, both directions, lol. He had that down in his 2nd 10 minute session. |

Thanks again for taking the time to explain this to me! Sorry if it was repetitive I just want to make sure I am doing this right | Another great thing about clicking everything is your clicks don't have to be perfectly timed. You aren't actually training a specific behavior. This is a game, and it's great for working on your timing. So if your timing is off, you aren't ruining anything, it's just a game, and the dogs love playing games. Then when you get your timing down, then you can start training some more specific behaviors. |
