No. But that's a good one! Similar content. The one I'm thinking either was also bite prevention or counter conditioning focused with a bit on what the article you linked talked about. I swear we have posted it here before, I just don't know how to do a search that advanced....
... Crap. I think I've read it too. And it talks about how the dog can temporarily overcome their anxiety to get to the treat lure, but once they're by the stranger and eat the treat, they're suddenly waaaay past their threshold and there's a scary hand right in front of their face and they're prone to panicking? That one?
Mine too! I volunteered to help a dog with significant separation anxiety and I'm writing up this massive treatment plan for him and I was supposed to send it to them like three days ago and it's STILL NOT DONE because I am trying to be ridiculously thorough... without knowing anything whatsoever about their living circumstances. So I am basically writing them a book and my brain is exploding.
Do we know this is an article? Could it be a section of a book we've both read? Maybe The Culture Clash or The Cautious Canine?
Yeah, I don't know! Lol! The one Kmes posted is the closest one. I'm not sure if it's "the one" though... I know what you're talking about for shiz, though, because I'm sure I reposted it on fb but I have too much crap on my wall to find it. Go figure.
• Caution! A fearful dog may temporarily overcome his fears in the tempting presence of a high value treat, then bite the scary person when the treat is no longer there. Don’t have strangers/helpers feed treats until you are sure your dog has been desensitized adequately – that he no longer appears fearful when approaching or being approached by strangers.
While I was looking for that article I found one with horrible advice. They basically wanted you to flood the dog with "stand for exam" with many different people until the dog doesn't care anymore (shuts down). Sigh.
Grabby, thanks for posting that! Posted via Mobile Device
