Toilet - Then Kicking Up Dirt?

Hi All,

probably a really basic question, but I've never had a dog do it.

My 8 month old pup went for a number two this morning whilst out on a walk and about a metre away from the 'site' kciking up dirty with her hind legs for a few seconds. Highly amusing to watch as she's never done this before but what does this signify?

Thanks

Sam

Three of mine do it. Its a pain if you've got them on leash.. I've had poo kicked at me before. Not cool.
I have heard that they're covering their scent, and I've also heard that they're dispersing it. Either way, its normal.

Cali- this post really made me laugh(I know it shouldn't!)

I will definatly keep out of Beau's way when she does it again!!
I'm glad this is normal behaviour; it suppose was naive in thinking she had shown all the behaviours she was going too-shows how much dogs can suprise you however old they are..

my girl does it every time she goes but i dont think even she has ANY idea at all why or even what she is doing. she walks feet away and kicks dirt in a completely random direction (usually in the opposite direction as the poop or she just kicks the dirt onto a bike path we walk on) but it makes no sense to me either.. lol
