Pacing back and forth

We just adopted a 1 and a 1/2 yr old male labx from the SPCA less then a week ago. I have noticed he paces back and forth especially at night, from one side of our bed to the other. He does this for about 10 minutes, then I get upset and put him in his crate. Is this left over behavior from the shelter?

Why are you getting upset? You realize what you are doing is punishing him? And you are using the punishment as a crate, something he may be associating with the shelter, only stressing him out more...

Pacing is a sign of anxiety/discomfort. What type of exercise/training/jobs does he get? How frequent? have you tried doing anything besides putting him in his crate?

"have you tried doing anything besides putting him in his crate?" Like what? As I said, we have had him less than a week, he goes out for a 1/2 hr walk in the morning, 45-60 min walk after work and running/playing in the back yard, every day. We are looking into one on one obedience training as the course offered by the SPCA and local pet store courses are in Nov-Dec
The pacing is usually 2 or 3 AM.

He definitely needs to have training and mind stimulated games daily.

2 or 3 am pacing sounds like "I need to go potty"....

That's not just before 2 to 3am...plenty of time for him to have to go again. Try restricting water

Ok we'll try that. Just worried that this may be an anxiety issue.
