Loud barking!!

hey all I know it's been a while,
but bear developed this annoying habit, barking, she's the sweetest girl at home she never barks (to the point that we thought she was mute) but once we get to the dog park she starts up barking.

I should have tried to stop her when she started, she was only barking on occasion, but now she barks mostly all the time, it's annoying. But the thing is..I have no idea how to stop her from barking...

It's like at the park she get's so excited she barks for someone to play with her and that someone is mostly me. I play with her but I'm only human, sometimes I wish I was a dog for her to play with but I'm not.

I'm just scared cause I know some people don't like barking dog's and I don't want them thinking "ah she barks that mean's she's mean" no she's the sweetest girl ever. Plus I don't wanna loose my dog park buddy's cause I can't control my dog.

How can I stop her from barking...

unfortunately the only tactic I know of for this involves marking the behavior (the barking) with a "uh oh" or "nope" and immediately removing the dog from the park. IF you do this consistantly enough the dog learns that if they bark the fun stops....Its hard to do tho, as most dogs will just learn to run away

I'm sure she's just talking to the other dogs-what she's saying? No idea-but a lot of dogs are very vocal around other dogs.

Like Crio said-you can remove her when she is barking-pain in the butt especially if you are far away from the park. BUT it will work.

Also-you could teach 'bark' or speak or what have you-and then teach a 'shhh' command to stop it and try it that way.

I've found the best way to quiet Mikey is to completely ignore it but he's weird and most of what we do with him would not work on other dogs in my experience.

With Mandy-she'd bark in the yard and I'd immediately call her inside-I'm far too scared of a neighbor getting sick of my dog and throwing poison over the fence or what have you-and that totally worked. Now-even though she's deaf-if she barks-she automatically comes right inside knowing that's not what she's allowed. So that's very similar to what Crio suggested-they just don't get to stay and bark period.

Evne though it's a pain I'd wager it'd only take a few times to get the messages through

I'll probably try that starting tonight if I can, cause as soon as she's off the leash she starts barking. So if she barks i'll take her back home and it won't be a bummer cause it's so frigging cold out no normal human being wants to stay outside anyways *LOL*
