Hates her feeding bowl

Ever since she was a pup ive fed Gypsy from a stainless steel bowl.
She's never bothered about it before , always eating her meal as soon as it was put down for her , but this last month or so we've noticed she point blank refuses to eat from it.

Its got so bad (she will actually go without food rather than eat from the bowl) that we end up tipping her food onto the floor now , which she then happily eats

I watched her today , she was trying to knock the bowl over with her head , she even tried picking it up with her teeth to tip the food out
Steve got her a new bowl today , a plastic type one , so lets hope she'll eat from this one

I cant think of any reason why she's suddenly developed this dislike of her bowl after almost two years
I guess im just asking if any of you have any idea why she's acting like this or has one of your dogs suddenly develop a dislike for an object they previously didnt mind ?

My Harvick sometimes acts like that. Could it be that her bowl is too cold? Or maybe she has a sore on her chin and it irritates it?

Theres no sore that I can see or feel

My OH got the new bowl , Im watching her now eating from it .. she is taking the food from it , but she is moving her head away and to the side of the bowl to eat it (I cant remember if she's always done this or not)
Toff and Teddy hold their heads over their bowls when eating
anyway , im just glad she's eating from a bowl again , lol

Its weird because we have two stainless steel water bowls, one upstairs, one down ... and she has no problem drinking from those

Probably has nothing to do with it, but my Pearl won't eat from a stainless steel bowl because her tags hit the bowl and startle her. I feed her in a shallow glass dish instead.

I am glad to hear that Gypsy is getting over her fears! Even if she isn't eating right over the bowl, taking food from it is a very good start!

Critter did this. Turns out her tags were clinking on the bowl when she ate and she finally decided after a long while that was the scariest thing ever

edit: lol, I didn't read Kmes post til right now...glad my dog isn't that odd after all..

We've had dogs who are scared of the sound of their tags hitting a stainless bowl too. Also they seem not to like the shiny aspect. They both will drink out of stainless though. There must be a distinction somehow for them.

Wally actually hated this nice big bowl I got him some time back. Figured that he was growing out of the little bowls before so I'd get him a nice roomy bowl.

He hated it. He likes his tiny little dark blue bowl. He'll drink water from the bigger bowl, but not eat. Nope.

Guess he's used to the color. Didn't think about that then.

I know he's not terribly keen on ceramic/whatever that stuff is dishes are made of. The clinking annoyed him. He'll eat out of it, but he's still not terribly fond of the idea.

Oh and there was this one bone way back when he first came here that he used to eat on as a chew item. Then suddenly he kept trying to push it/flip it (?) with his nose and refused to go near it. He also used to chew on smoked bones then suddenly hated them, even though he chewed it the day before and it still had meat on it. It's like it was some kind of phase or something and then suddenly, he just wasn't interested. Give him a raw steak bone with a little meat on it and he's all over it.

Go figure.

Mine can be faddy little so-and-so's as well

Toff used to adore whole carrots , now he just turns his nose up at them , unless I slice them thinly for him first , then he will deign to eat them

Gypsy .. oh boy , she has so many little fads , one day she loves raw chicken , the next she doesnt , then she loves liver , another day she wont touch it with a barge pole ... she's a little madam , lol

Teddy will eat anything , no problems or signs of being faddy from him , lol

Harley does that because he can see his reflection in the bowl. It freaked him out.
