Female dogs humping?

Eeek! So my parent's dog Zoey (4.5 year old 40lb spayed female) has this ...weird habit.

She has this giant teddy bear toy in the living room that she will carry up and down the stairs sometimes...she doesn't "play" normal with it though. She will randomly run up to it and start humping it. It's really quite odd and last time I was at their house it was a bit awkward to say the least!!! LoL

My parents just said oh that's how she plays. They don't see it as anything sexual. I find it odd.

With the exception of me and hubby's last dog which was male, we've had all females (both my parents and us). All spayed before first heat and none have done this.

What causes female dogs to do this?

A lot of times an outlet for excitement, sometimes it helps relieve frustration, and I know nobody wants to hear this--but it feels good to them. It could also be a sign of a UTI, but if that's been ruled out, it's probably one of the above.

IMO, in a situation like you're describing, its usually over excitement. Young pups will do it too, and trust me, its not hormones when the pup's not even 10 weeks old.....

Yea no UTI issues at all. She ussually does this after she gets the zoomies. She's quite active as my mom takes her for a long walk\jog every morning and she's got a huge house and backyard to herself. Her and my mom's two cats are total bffs (lol) so they play together all the time- it's not that she doesn't get excercise. It's just odd...not one of our other females has ever done this.

Yeah, Jayne does it after zoomies too. She also gets a lot of exercise, it's just sort of a thing. As long as she's doing it to her stuffed animals, I don't really care. Whatever makes her happy.

Ditto! It's so funny though- this bear is twice her size.

That's what Jayne's is. She has a big stuffed husky that's bigger than her, it's the only one she likes to hump.

LOL it's not weird. it is awkward but pretty normal.
My 3 month old female puppy tries to hump any toys that are bigger than her.

My 3 year old female spayed dog would hump this teddybear (I took it away, it's just too awkward for me, i didn't want her to make a habit out of humping)
She also starts to hump the air when she is sniffing certain cats or dogs or when me and my bf are playing. (She seems unable to control it, I always ask her to stop, poor thing)

and my previous female intact dog when I still lived with my parents also humped, she humped this big blue ball we got her. (although that dog would also hike her leg and mark things )
