Hello everyone,
My dog is kept freely on my fenced backyard and I try to go with him for a good hour walk outside everyday. We live near a few agriculture fields and that's where we usually go and he is kept off leash while there. When we arrive home I try to give him a treat and pet him for a while everytime but if we leave the gate open his attention goes immediately to it and if not stopped he leaves by himself, and even though we keep calling him to come back he does not for a good 15 to 20 minutes. Why does he do this after a long walk and what can be done to make his walk more satisfying and try to avoid him leaving after it?
We have no other pets at home and I wonder if he goes after other dogs for a little interaction, after female dogs (he is not neutered) or to just run a longer distance more vigourously.
He has had disappeared before already a couple of times when failed to come back by himself and we had to search him hard to find him wandering or sheltered by someone else.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and wish happy dog times to everyone!
