Blowing in dog's face - why's he so mad?

When I blow in my dog's face, he gets mean - however, mine doesn't do this, but I've seen other dogs hang their heads out of the window when they're in the car - and the wind blows in their face and they look so happy.

Why is this different from blowing in his face? Why does this make them mad?

Well put it this way, I like putting my arm out of the car while I'm driving - it also drives me nuts when people blow in my face...

Dogs might not understand that kind of interaction, so they react the way they react - either lick you back (gentle/submissive/appeasing reaction), or play/neutral bite (confident/puppy reaction), or snap you (fear/aggressive reaction) lol. Mine can play/neutral bite me back after looking at me for a second (trying to understand what I want form him). He's the kind of puppy alligator that likes biting and playing rough, so that's his kind of reaction to what he doesn't understand lol. I try to blow his face gently and ask for kisses on the face as I hope that he can understand and get used to this, and not hurt anyone unintentionally later (just imagine a kid suddenly doing it). You have to avoid doing it roughly or in a way that resembles dogs/puppies asking another dog for play or else they will play with you in their (mouthy) way lol.

It's good to get a puppy used to different kinds of closer face to face or eye contact interactions so he feels confident about humans close contact and not unsure or threatened.

By the way, if you blow him slowly while you smell like snacks, he might lick you a lot lol.

Was there a reason you were doing this? (I'm wondering how you found out!)

Actually when we first got him, I blew in his face to stop him from doing something and he snapped. I don't do it anymore but I was wondering why they got mad at a face blowing but don't mind the wind smacking in their faces when they ride in the car.

Because he's sticking his own head out the window at his own will.

You're blowing in his face when he doesn't want to have the "wind in his fur" feeling. You're doing it against his will.

It's quite different.

It's like...I like hugs...but if you just go around hugging me all the time when I don't want to be hugged, I'm not going to be happy about it, and I'm not going to enjoy it.
