Oh no that makes perfect sense, I should have put it that way LOL mix up the two methods for whatever works for the dogs. Do they show how to play tug with a kong? Peyton wants to play tug with kongs all the time lol

lol in the video they do not, but i would assume it would need a handle of some sort so one of these might work...

Yup. Steal what works and makes sense to you. How do you think I find so many good tidbits

Pawz, they talk about tugging with a ball on a rope, and I *think* other hard toys on ropes...its the same idea. I don't recall to much about it because it didn't really apply to me.

so, just an update on the tug thing... our game has improved quite a bit... one thing that has really helped is my learning how to present the toy properly... i realized after watching the video that i was putting my hands/arms/fingers in the way, and that is why clover was sometimes getting me/not really trying to take the toy very enthusiastically... now he hits it pretty hard, not as hard as the dogs in the video (thank goodness, he is probably twice as big as they are!) but still hard... as far as the other stuff, he has a good release, and we have been working on the "drop it" at a distance that GDM suggested, i would say that the last couple of days he finally started to get that he needs to spit it out on the floor... i'm still needing to get a good tug toy, and probably going to order one of the ones that crios posted, but for now we have a cheapy one i found that works quite well..

what is really cool, even with as strong as he is, it took a long time to get him to really pull on the thing, sometimes i think he is holding back to boost my confidence seriously tho, he is really pulling now, man is it a work-out... 5 minutes of tug and i break a sweat for sure!

i actually practiced stepping back and moving it to the side in front of a mirror a bunch of times, like dance moves... but like i said, now that i am not shoving the toy down his throat/putting my hands in his way, he is getting more and more into it... such a great work-out, and i LOVE throwing in a tug session between regular training... and the tug session itself if practice with quite a few cues...
