Cow hooves

In the endless search for a variety of chew toys for my dogs (one a medium chewer and one a tough chewer) I came across cow hooves today. They didn't stink in the bag but they smell gawd awful when the dogs have them wet. I can put up with that.

But I'm wondering about hoof safety. The dogs would only be supervised while they chewed on them so the chance they'd choke on them is low. But how do they wear down? Do pieces chip off of do they wear down more like bully sticks?

What else should I be aware of as the dogs chew on these hooves?

I have found that they will just wear down from the chewing. I've never had a problem with them. As for the smell, your right. WOW! These are best for outside

Crio bully sticks were alright with your dogs yes? I am nervous to change from bully sticks to something like hooves.

I've heard they splinter, so I've never tried them. Have you tried antlers?

They were a favorite with my little dogs. I never had any issues, just had to watch and throw the hooves out once they got really small (took a couple weeks).

Unfortunately I don't let them have hooves very often any more. If I don't pick them up right away, my dobie will find them and he can easily break off really big pieces...

So I guess just keep a close eye on your dogs for now.

The antlers seem too expensive compared to bully sticks.

Bully sticks have been perfect for me so far. Zero issues. Chili eats one a day. Costs me about $1 a day since I buy in bulk online.

The hooves stank also iirc

Also keep in mind bullies are actually food and hooves are useless nutritionally

Yep. I skip a meal and replace it with a stick. I get them on amazon from "best bully sticks". Its really helped keep weight on him also.

I mean I guess I understand the hooves if you are just trying to entertain the dog, which Is what i liked. But my goals are diff now I guess. My dog has mastered all his puzzle toys and this feeds and occupies him
