what kind of dog show? conformation? if you are interested in conformation, you should definitely contact your local breed club for advice. dogs shown in conformation start pretty young, as puppies, though i'm not sure what the minimum age would be. your dog would need to be a perfect physical example of his breed, as well as have a pedigree and papers from a kennel club to participate in most conformation type dog shows.

if you are interested in participating in some sort of competition type dog "show" i would suggest contacting a local trainer who participates, or again, a local kennel club should be able to give you advice/info on where to start...

I would love to do conformation or obedience this is my two year old yellow lab.

I think both of them are excelent examples of there breeds. except my yellow lab has a chocolate nose.

My chocolate lab is 7 and i would love to show him in obedience.

Is a 7 year old to old for obedience.

7 is not too old to compete in obedience, i don't think that there are age maximums....

i know little about judging dogs on conformation but your opinion of your dogs will matter little in the show ring, it will be up to the judges i'm assuming that you have a complete pedigree on your dog and he is registered with a kennel club, like the AKC, oh and he is unaltered?

Both my dogs are altered so i know i can't show them in AKC shows.
I'm in 4-H show i'm looking to do the show circut through 4-H.

Do they need to be unaltered for obedience?

Contact your local AKC club. They can tell who hold handling classes locally.
Local breeders are also a good place to start if they are involved in a breed club.

Only the UKC will accept altered purebreed dogs for conformation. That being said ... conformation starts at 6 months old. Judges are more forgiving with puppies because one does not know exactly how they will grow and whether they fit the breed standard. As adults, winning is harder because whether the dogs fit the breed standard is very easy to tell. The classes for judging is puppy (6 -9 months), senior puppy (9-12 months), adults 1 + years ... when senior starts not sure because my puppy already has his Championship before turning 1 so no need for him to go further to the senior class. Good luck.
