Default Xena, the warrior puppy.

Years ago we used to have a dachshund mix of some sort named Hercules, so naming this miniature Xena just seemed right.

We finally picked her up today. Her birthday was January 14th.

I am very proud of Garfield, too. It seems that my hunch was right in that he was able to sense that Xena is just a pup and no threat to him. When they first sniffed each other, Xena was in her crate. No one made any noises while sniffing, but the hair on his back definitely stood up. Later, though, there was no tension at all. Garfield has even tried rubbing his head on her a couple times. I really think he wants to play... but maybe he hasn't figured things out yet.

She finally finished crying and is asleep now. This is her second night away from her mother, and her first night at my place. So ya -- she cried a lot.
She's doing good though.
She isn't too fond of some one holding the leash yet, but she'll definitely walk and drag it. Man, she gets all kinds of attention.

I love Dachshunds. Congratulations on your new little one.
She sure is tiny. Good luck with potty training and all that good stuff ahead. Hope to see more pics as Xena grows.

It has been about 15 years since I've had a puppy, so far I've only one question. She whines a LOT. I'm not talking about at night either (or when otherwise alone). When she's just hanging out with me, or even on a walk. Almost nonstop on the walk.

What's her deal? Still miss her momma and littermates?
I admit it's about 60 degrees outside and been a constant drizzle for the last day... I suppose she could just be cold. But as I write out this message she's whining.
Maybe she's just still a bit needy.

She's definitely a cutie. Garfield is way huge, but he's a gentleman. I sure got lucky.

probably just her being a bit confused and missing her littermates. Is it just a whine occasionally or full out crying?

btw she is ADORABLE omg I want her..

your cat sounds very confident and stable, hopefully they grow up friends

7 weeks is still pretty young it could be a high possibility that she is just missing her mom and siblings since you've only had her a couple days. Dachshunds can get cold easily because of their small size and short coat so if she's shaking really bad outside you may want to buy her a sweater or keep her in the house until it gets warmer outside. Once she gets older the cold shouldn't bother her as much. Maybe someone else will have more ideas as to why she's crying ALL the time though.

Well, I was given a coat for her. I always thought dog clothes are novelties though.
I guess I can give it a try. Talk about silly looking though - an man over six feet walking a puppy in clothes. Phew.

I don't expect her to whine into adolescence, but if there something I can do for her now, it's worth a shot.

(She only ever really "cries" when she comes to something she thinks is insurmountable.. Like a curb or tall grass. She gets over it though.)
