| Oscar the Doxie (my 1st foster) On saturday I am going to meet my 1st foster dog. His name is Oscar and he is a 4.5 year old Dapple Doxie. Chris is taking Oliver & Jayda to meet Oscar on saturday to see if they get along. If all goes good and he doesn't get adopted on saturday he will be staying with me until he finds his forever home. Here are a few pics a lady from the rescue sent me of him: |

| Sarah, how are you not going to fall in love with him and want to keep him? That's my fear about fostering, that I'd never be able to give them up and I'd have as many dogs as the rescue I'd be fostering for! LOL!
He looks adorable! |

| Well, I am not sure yet how it is going to go as this will be my first foster. I do know that right now that both of my dogs are still in their puppy phase. I wouldn't be able to handle more than 3 dogs right now, so that would mean if I kept this pup I wouldn't be able to foster another one. I guess I just have to keep that mind set of knowing once he finds his forever home I will be able to foster another dog in need.
The lady at the rescue told me last time they had a dachshund up for adoption he was adopted within 24 hours. When I meet him on saturday he is going to be up for adoption at petsmart, so I will be sitting with him for a few hours trying to help adopt him out. I'll post an update tomorrow. |

| Congratulations on becoming a foster. You're going to love it. You'll get to meet a lot of great dogs, and it's very rewarding to help them find good homes.
You've got the right attitude too. You have to be thinking about the next dog that needs your help. Almost every dog you foster you'll think, "This dog is so special I need to keep it". Don't fall for it, even though they are all special. We try to move on to our next foster as soon as we can once the current one gets adopted. Often we'll deliver one foster to their new family and leave the shelter with our next one immediately. There's usually no shortage of dogs in need.
Don't forget to start your foster scrapbook now. It's a lot of fun to look back at all the dogs you've met. |

| Ohh I really like the scrapbook idea. I think I will do that! I am nervous about getting attached to the dogs I foster, but I will just have to stay strong! If I didn't work 40hrs a week I would probably take in more than one foster at a time. At first I wasn't even sure if I would be able to foster at all since I do work mon-fri, but my boyfriend doesn't start work until around 10:30am most days so I figured it was do-able. My dogs are normally only home alone 6 hours at most, but I did let the rescue know I probably wouldn't be able to take in any young puppies. Anyways I can't wait to start, I've been wanting to do animal rescue for a long time, and now that I finally have my own house I figured what better time than now. |

| awww! he is a cutie! lol... seems easy to fall in love with, but like you said, a handsome little guy like that will most likely be adopted pretty quickly... totally keep us updated on him! |

that was my first thought, A dapple doxie is going to be an easy "sell" provided theres nothing dramatically 'wrong" with him. In fact a dapple doxie is on my personal wish list LOL |
